NOTICE NewCon is Copyright (C) 1988 by Bob Crow - All Rights Reserved, except as outlined below! NewCon is being released into the public domain as SHAREWARE and may be distributed freely, by any means, as long as it has not been modified and this notice accompanies it. NewCon provides two useful functions. First it monitors the information from the keyboard and creates an audible click (actually a "beep") as certain keys are pressed. Second, it monitors the InputDevice to determine the time interval between input events (inactivity). If this inactivity exceeds the value specified by the user, the Amiga's screen is blanked. The screen is restored to normal by the first input received from the keyboard or mouse. The resident routines (those that remain in memory after execution and provide the features), occupy only 632 bytes of memory. The volume of the key click and the duration of inactivity are adjustable with the utility NewConAdj (see below). NOTE: NewCon MUST BE IN THE "c" OR "System" Directories FOR NewConAdj TO PATCH IT!. NewCon requires no parameters on its command line: NewCon(RETURN) Will invoke NewCon and create a key click and screen blanking functions. NewCon may be added to the "s" directory startup-sequence to provide for automatic execution at startup. Put NewCon in your "c" directory and add this line to the startup-sequence file: c/NewCon When NewCon executes, it displays a message informing you of the status of that execution. Default Values for NewCon are: Key click volume = -12 dB (this is only a relative value from Table 5-8 in the AMIGA (TM) Hardware Reference Manual, Page 160). Screen blanking interval - 5 minutes. When used with NewConAdj: The volume is adjustable throughout the range of the above referenced Table. Screen blanking intervals: INF - Never blanks 1 - Minute 3 - Minutes 5 - Minutes 7 - Minutes 10 - Minutes 15 - Minutes 20 - Minutes The following keys will not create a click when they are pressed: CTRL Left SHIFT Right SHIFT Left ALT Right ALT Left AMIGA Right AMIGA To obtain the latest version of NewCon, NewConAdj, and a list of other software available by me, send a contribution of ten (10) dollars or more to: Bob Crow 27711 No. Calypso Ln. At least, I was unable to obtain a copy of that program from the boards. If you like (or are used to) audible feedback from your keyboard, this program will give you that, without sacrificing a lot of memory. Enjoy! -jec
