A˜   „FileMaster 3.0 - from keyboard

   Some time ago I receive in my hands
new  dir utility, I mean ß Version one
of  the  most  popular  dir  utilities
(after  DOpus  of  course)  FileMaster
3.0.  There  is  no  doubts, that this
version   brought   in   many   useful
changes,  but  there  are  still  many
errors.  I  am  not going to write the
whole  description  of this program in
this  article  because  there are such
(for example in Amiga Magazine).
   Actually,  this  sentence  I should
place   in  the  beginning,  but  ....
Namely,  idea (if you can call it like
this)  on  this  article is taken from
life,  because I have been deprived of
mouse  for  one  month  :-(  I  had to
profit from keyboard. Thanks to that I
could  get know a few errors. I am not
coder,  so I am not going to accuse of





that  anybody  and thinking, why it is
here, but... lets begin.

„    FileMaster 3.0 was writing in way,
„you  could use it from keys and mouse.
Its   brought  in  option  known  from
Norton,  that  is  blue stripe to mark
files  steered  by  "arrows".  This is
very  comfortable to someone without a
mouse.  Must  be  added, that there is
possibility  of  jumping  to the other
edition window with help of tab key.
   Besides,  authors, in option CONFIG
made   possible   to   set   your  own
shortkeys   to   all  options  of  the
program, which is very useful. But the
whole  splendor  of  these  innovation
spoils one, important thing, that is "
blocking   shortkeys"   (for   example
PARENT  can`t be activated by pressing
p  etc.).  This  happens  quite often,
after   1.5-2.0   hours  working  with
program.
   Another,   similar  error  is  icon
jamming.  When  You  click  on icon it
stay pressed. Only repeating operation
few times unblocks the icon. This bugs
are  not, perhaps, tragic, but in some
cases  it  can  drives  you  crazy (hi
Mesje:).

ƒ   Next bugs of the new FileMaster 3.0
ƒare  quite  strange. ‚ First of them is
fucked  module  player, which one time
plays  module faster, one time slower,
what can be funny, sometimes.
   The  strangest  thing  is connected
with  module  player, too. When module
is  played  in background and drive is
reading  disk catalogue there is often
READ  ERROR.  After  switching off the
music and pressing RETRY everything is
O.K.

   Another   interesting   thing   are
trouble   with   reading   AGA`s   IFF
pictures,  while  the same JPEG has no
problem with it. Actually there is not
problem   with  reading  pictures  but
opening  screen  -  there  is  showing
"Couldn't  open screen". You can read,
from  CLI, SetPatch & use it, but this
operation is successful one on fifteen
times! Strange, at least, if not Weird
like my friend says (hi Domi!).

„   In spite of all these bugs & errors
„FileMaster  3.0 is really worth using.
Wanna  proof?  This  is the best proof
:^>  During datas transmission through
the  Parnet  (two  A1200  in  the same
time) there was DOpus on the first and
FileMaster  3.0  on  the  second.  The
second Amiga turned out to be faster.

I've  almost forgotten. Bug I describe
above, about disk error during playing
mods   has   place   too,  when  other
program(s) is (are) playing module and
FileMaster 3.0 is in the background.

ƒP.S
Bug I describe above is activated even
this  time,  when  music  channels are
reserved  by  program (like Protracker
or  PowerPlayer).  Really  strange,  I
checked it few times!!!
