A˜„ 22KB intro? ƒ[LeMUr/Fire & blabla] — In„ RAW#9 ‚magazine I've read article —about this problem. And I thought, —this is not stupid idea... ƒ What is this all about? ‚OKee... I know that not everybody had possibility to read article in RAW#9 magazine (I don't remember author's nickname) because of many reasons. In that text author suggested limiting intro's size which are shows on competitions to 22 KB. Why? Well, because in present limit of „40 Kb ‚ we can place many things. Long module, which is not chipy - its no big deal to pack, for example module of length 100 KB, with The Player, then pack samples to 4 bits and with excellent instruments (f.e. from CD) it would sounds quite good. We can insert a table with counted before animation. This is not a "real" code ,it is a cheat. The table can include, f.e. 50 .... (and we've "one frame"...) of animation 160x128 points in one bitplane. Simply calculation - 1 byte is 8 points, that is 160x128=20480 points which is 2560 bytes. Everything multiplies by 50 gives 128000 bytes. With help of productive commpression's alghorytm (see texts in Joker's "Party-zanci 3" intro) we certainly could pack it 10 times... Music packed to 20 kB, 12 kb of tables and there are remaining 8 kB. And this is 2 special effects, at least! Intro is fuckin'' good, and there are some "real time" effect inside, showed every frame... Another limit is „64 kB‚. The situation is even worse here. Of course, we can say, it is ONLY 64 kB, we have Wolfeinstein or Doom. Such shit we can say to pc-man. But The Real Amiga Coders won't buy this. Unfortunately. The smallest are„ 4K-intros‚. And personally, I like them best. Even sound appear there lately. This is the best proof, we have more and more better "compressors" ;) This is good, but from the other side 4K-intros should be just like FUNZINe's "zembatki z IO2" - real code without any sound. „ 22 kB‚ is size which allow press in chipy (that 'real' - in many ways better than sequence - has 10-15 kB without compression) and several effects. I think, that such intro's limit would be satisfactory for both sides - coders will find room enough in it, and spectators will not have doubts about 'real time' counting. „ In present days Amiga dies slowly, „after all. ‚ Some coders moves on PC, because that one gives better possibilities - hard disk is standard (even floppy disks have larger capacity), so 486sth has a good 'kick'. Amiga man is not fond of demos uses hard disk - f.e. Noxzema. Me too. But I think, we should give coders a chance - let 6MB RAM will be a standard, at last and. perhaps, math co.. Could you imagine Gourauds on such machines? And limit intros size to 22 kB - let's show pc-men what can be placed in so little file. In my opinion it would be shock for greenhorn (pc-man) to see, f.e. shading human head every 2 frame... (it needn't be "one frame" :) — Think - maybe "fish" from G-Force —won't be the only fuckin' good demo?! —ƒ LeMUr‚/ Fire — ‚/& blabla At the least: Did you see „ "Dawn"‚ - 4k-intro by Azure/Artwork from The Party 5? It's superb! G-Force outside...
