The Color StyleWriter 2200 is designed to complement Apple Macintosh PowerBook computers, but can also be used on the desktop with most Macintosh and Power Macintosh computers. Weighing just over three pounds and measuring less than 12 inches across and 2.2 inches high, the Color StyleWriter 2200 mirrors the high-quality color performance of its siblings in Apple's color inkjet line. Key usability features such as "Desktop Printing," "2-, 4-Up Printing" and "Watermark" capability all come standard on this printer. In addition, users will be pleased with the printer's low price of just $419. "Today's mobile customers shouldn't have to sacrifice high quality color output and outstanding performance for true portability," said Terry Bailey, senior director. "The Color StyleWriter 2200 is a professional-quality desktop color printer that's an ideal solution for users with limited space. Yet it can go anywhere a PowerBook user goes. It's a convenient and easy-to-use solution on the road or on the desktop, at home or in the office." "The profile of today's business professionals is changing dramatically as technology evolves," said Larry Jamieson, associate director of electronic printer services at BIS Strategic Decisions. "Business executives have always wanted color for emphasis and presentations, but have required monochrome printers for most applications. A portable color printer fills the need for occasional color printing on the desktop and gives them more flexibility in their output without taking up additional deskspace. With the introduction of this printer, these executives also have the option of printing in truly mobile environments." Like its siblings, the Color StyleWriter 2200 offers three key new usability features: "Desktop Printing," "2-,4-Up Printing" and "Watermarks." Desktop Printing lets users drag and drop files onto a printer icon on the desktop. This automatically launches the application and the print dialog box. "2-, 4-Up Printing" lets users print two or four reduced-sized documents on a single page, saving money and reducing environmental impact. A new "Watermark" feature lets users place words such as "draft" or "confidential" on the background of a page. Eight commonly used watermarks are included, but any information stored as a PICT or PICT 2 file can be used as a watermark, such as a color company logo. The Color StyleWriter 2200 ships with a color cartridge that offers 360 by 360 dots per inch (DPI) color and true black printing on the same page. It uses water-resistant ink and can print a color page in under three minutes. A high performance black ink cartridge provides 720 by 360 DPI edge smoothing technology for crisp text output in best mode, or up to five pages per minute laser-fast output in normal mode. A 30-sheet paper feeder is built-in and the printer easily handles plain, coated or glossy paper, transparencies, back-print film and envelopes. The printer offers 64 TrueType fonts for high-quality text, matching the font set included with Apple LaserWriter printers. The Color StyleWriter 2200 is compatible with all 68020 or better Macintosh computers, and comes with a PowerPC-native driver that greatly enhances performance when printing complex color documents from Power Macintosh computers. The QuickDraw GX driver gives users access to Apple's latest imaging architecture. The printer also supports ColorSync 2.0, an advanced technology that provides the closest possible match between colors viewed on a display and the color that comes out of the printer. For those who wish to use the Color StyleWriter 2200 away from AC power, an optional Nickel-Metal Hydride battery is available. With the battery installed, the Color StyleWriter 2200 weighs only 4.2 pounds. When battery powered, the user can print approximately 200 pages between charges. An optional universal AC adapter for use with all standard power outlets is also available.
