The eveninable event at The Party stating that 'this is the end - we'll miss you soo much', and three or four months later, the oh so happy announcement that The Party crew rises from its ashes to make yet another beloved party. The way we see it, this is simply manipulating with the scene. c01 A BITTER AFTERTASTE c03By announcing 'The Final', 'The End of an Era', 'The Ultimate' - the slogans the Scene had to learn all the way since 1992 - the party-attenders begin to feel that although the party hasn't always featured the best of organization, it's still a legendary party which they have attended many years in a row and it is thereby connected with many memories. The typical scener will tend to say, 'OK, the organization sucks at this party, the organizers are unfriendly and don't actually care about giving me a good time here or helping me out, if my eg. contributiondisk had I/O-errors. Neverthless, it IS the final party, and I'll really miss it'. Imagine that it was announced from the beginning that there would definitely be a 'The Party' the following year. THEN, the average scener would probably say 'NO, there's no way, I'll cope with being treated as a tourist that has to be milked for all his cash. I am NOT going next year!'. This is the smart move from the organizers, stating that 'this is the end' of the worlds most famous strictly commercial scene-party. They have accomplished that the sceners will actually MISS the annual Christmas event. c01 FIVE MEN AND FIVE TIES c03Now, all that there is left to do for the organizers is to show up at some big parties around Spring- or Summertime the following year - either dressed as members of NSDAP or bringing some 'The Party' beers, (t)-shirts or whatever - and happily announcing as if they were the new Messias that they will make sure that yet another party will be held in Jutland, Denmark from the 27th of December and two-three days forth. c01 THE FINAL... SALUTE! c03Hail the organizers! In your opinion, this is probably the lowest that anyone has ever sunk just to make a profit. And please remark that the entrance fee is rising rapidly exponentially - from 130 DKR at The Party II in Aars and up to 250 DKR at The Party VI in Aars - exactly the same place. Of course, we are aware that more facilities and extra events have been added from TP2 to TP6 - neverthless, it's hard to find a scener that thinks that there has ever been a better party than The Party II. The question is if the aforementioned hard-to-find average scener would not be better off going to some smaller, maybe AMIGA-only party?! These tend to be cosier, more well organized, and most importantly more personal than those big commercial parties like The Party, The Gathering or the Assembly. Or, to say it in another manner, have those huge parties not grown too big, both for the attenders AND the organizers? After all, we have just heard that the Gathering had 3300 attenders this year, and only about 200 AMIGA owners. Just maybe; maybe this is just the time to think about an alernative.
