In his article, The Ripper states that unskilled people should not have articles published, e.g people who cannot express themselves, and that nowadays newspapers do not publish these things, so why should we? Also, he writes about VIS use, and the invisible distinction between the known and the not-so-known. The Ripper has apparently been inspired by my VIS article where I wrote about how some diskmags only publish articles by famous persons, how boring those mags can become because it is the same style all the way through, etc. Infact, I can see that we agree on most things, but you Ripper have misinterpreted my article! I did not write that f2everybody f1should have freedom of speech, or that I embraced absolute freedom of speech, e.g f4c04"We'll publish all articles, because everyone has a right to be heard". f1c03But, I thank you Ripper, now I can write one more article without having to think hard about what I'll write about, heh! I've never stated such in my article, but I think you apply a meaning for me, and I strongly object to that. I never wrote about freedom of speech in the first place, I wrote about how some diskmags are more interesting to read than others, because a broad variety of people have contributed with articles. Let's take for example Generation#22, there's c0280% RokDaZone articles, 15% Ripper articles, and 5% "various" articles. c03That's not to say Generation isn't interesting (it is!), but it's to say that what is the meaning with this? It gives the reader a narrow view of the Scene and only one truth to most things. That can become boring.. That's were I (in my previous article) wrote that a diskmag like c02Buzz c03(but I could name c02DISCc03, c02JP c03and even c02Miracle c03too) could be more entertaining because really many opinions, people and thoughts got placed in one diskmag. I did f2not f1write that sure, let everybody who wants to have an article published, have it published. It might have been unclear, but I think that as long as an article has a good point, and isn't hopelessly flawed (bad expressions, unlogical), it should be published. The grammatical errors should not be any hindrance, as that could be fixed. But, f2never f1did I mean to publish all articles ever written, just because they have a right for it, no way! Anyway, you draw a parallel with newspapers of nowadays. I don't think newspapers and diskmag can be judged equally, it's not at all the same. The newspaper is something pro- fessional, involving money and professional people, writing about.. News. A diskmag is a huge con- glomerate of diverse amateurs, producing it for the sheer joy of it, without regard to earning money or paying its staff. So, a diskmag can theoretically publish what it wants, express what opinions it wants, etc.. A newspaper is bound by some interests (usually capitalistic) and can't do exactly what it wants. c02Diskmags have the opportunity to be a haven where everybody can contribute with some- thing c03(as long as it's interesting!). Some diskmags however, limit themselves by only having a few persons who do all the work. Those diskmags are still the most popular, because of the immense skill of those persons (amongst other reasons), and as the f4"diverse" f1diskmags suffer from bad english or uninteresting topics, they can't make it that far on the charts. Too bad really. And to make it absolutely clear, I do not like Buzz that much, I only used it as an example of a mag with a variety of writers. They could have reached higher, f2if f1not for the notorious command of the english language which many of their editors had, and f2if f1not for many articles which were even below filler standard. This was only an example, nothing more. I did not think that everybody who can hit their keyboard and save the results should have a right to get their article published...
