fpc01 LOOKING AT THE EARLY DAYS OF THE PARTY c04 all the events revisited c02 by RokDaZone c03This article takes statements about recent parties as comparison to event from f21996f1. It seems obvious that I take my own reports from the past for this as they are the only ones I have the rights on. As I have not been to The Party I there will not be any quotations about that event then. c04f2 THE HALLS c02"f4Hall 1 was mainly filled with Amiga's, here one was able to find the more known groups. The video-screen also was located here and so it was quite obvious that this hall was the more attracting one. In hall 2, many PC- and C64-owner made up their tent. It seemed to be more coloured in here. Certain groups in hall one were lucky to have their own seperated department" f1(The Party II) c03"f4Despite the strange topographic location, Herning's 'Messecentret' offers everything a heart could demand. Absolutely state of the art the appearance. Chrome, steel and glass ruled the scenery. (...) The dimensions were gigantic." f1(The Party III (goes also for IV)) c02"f4The hall was a convenient like a edgy rock with distles on it for a sleeping place. It was too high and too big to give a 'homely' feeling. Also the light was pure stress to the eyes as it needed many watts to enlighten every edge - making life hard for people sitting directly underneath one of the huge lamps. There was not much of a aircondition possible so the air was stinky after just a short time." f1(The Party V) f2c04 THE CHANGING VOTE SYSTEMf1 c02"f4(...) and the long queue in front of the main entrance. This queue resulted from the fact that everyone wanting to vote for the competitions, had to give his name, handle and type of computer. The data was registered and one got his own personal voting disk, which had to be delivered back later after the voting.f1" (The Party II) c03The voting system totally failed as f220,-DKKf1 extra for a disk one was not allowed to keep seemed a high price just to be allowed to give ones voice. Already in 1993 the votedisk was included in the entrancefee and from c021994c03 on, it was also handed back after voting. Still the system did not seem ideal as the counting time took much too long, as especially c02The Party Vc03 revealed when the results delayed for not less than three hours. c021996c03 finally brought the big change with online voting which in the first place should have been enabled by networks, but mostly were used via terminal. Although this system did not work out entirely the way into the future is obvious: Terminal- and Networkvoting is here to stay. f2c04 SLEEPING HALLf1 c02"f4The noise and the music from the other halls did not disturb our sleep - despite some stupid boozed guys crying around. Well, the floor was much too cold if one wasn't in the possession of any isolation stuff.f1" (The Party II) c03"f4Do you remember the sleepinghalls? Their huddled crowded athmosphere?f1" (The Party III) c04"f4Much like last year, the sleepinghall was just splendid except for the penetrating snorrers maybe." (The Party IV) c02"f4Especially the sleeping hall smelled like thousand pigs were rampaging in it. In fact, it were just a couple of hundred Sceners (where is the difference?), sleeping in there. Why having such a small, noisy and cold sleeping hall? Moreover: Why having a Rave in it from 20:00 to 3:00? (...) Why having the multi-channel competition short after in the early morning?f1" (The Party V) c04f2 SANITARIAN FACILITIESf1 c02"f4There was too much noise and dirt and the sanitarian side has been nearly forgotten: Two shower for 2600 people!f1" (The Party II) c03"f4Everyone was complaining about the dirt in the hall, they all lost their ability to analyse, why there was so much dirt: Because everyone was throwing his waste to the floor instead of giving it into the ashtray or whatever.f1" (The Party III) Much unlike 1992, there were enough showers and toilets inf2 1993f1 and of course alsof2 1994f1. If one was clever enough not to insist on the washing times one is used to, it was possible to fully avoid waiting. c04"f4The cleaning staff did its best to fight the imposingly high mountains of paper and waste, not always did they succeed.f1" (The Party IV) c02"f4We had a cleaning personnel that seemed to be rather active. Remember: It is not an easy job to keep a hall and especially toilets tidy when f22500f1 guys are trying to mess it all up. One could even go to the toilet without fear of having raging gonoccoces nagging on ones behind.f1" (The Party V) c02All in all, the hygienic conditions were not always the most important point to concern for the organisers around Stripe as the fatal idea to bring The Party VI back to Aars gives prove to. In case you are one of the new organisers: Do not even consider to go on like this. c04f2 FOOD PRICESf1 c02"f4Also the prices have still been much too high (at least for my needs).f1" (Party II) c03"f4They promised to keep an eye on the prices, but it seemed like they used a glasseye.f1" (The Party IV (goes also for 1993)) c02"f4For example the food prices were rather fair when compared to Herning.f1" (the Party V) c03Only short quotations, but they mean a lot as a lot of people simply cannot afford to pay the travel and entrance-fee plus costs of living at a ridiculous high level like inf2 1993f1. c04f2 CONCERTS AND RAVESf1 c02"f428-12-92; 00:40 a.m. Kyd/Balle seemingly really are professionals. At least they let their audience wait like Guns'n'Roses are used to do: 45 minutes delay! (...) The three lonely shadows on the stage try to be impressive by using videos with political or social content, displayed onto the screen as background. (...) The idea of a concert was great, but in the middle of the night it was quite too much.f1" (The Party II) c04The Party IV even featured a special Ravehall, in which many Sceners made the night become day. Splendid one as also the youth of the town itself showed up so that enough women were present. c02"f4A Rave in a sleeping hall and no one care for it at all except for people in desperate need maybe. Still I cannot see that those were in favor of this special event.f1" (The Party V) c04f2 ORGANISERSf1 c03"f4A rotten cadaver fumbles on my bottle immediately. It's the friendly but stupid-looking guard. As sympathetic as a policeman. With the behaving of an high Gestapo-officer he starts an impressive confisciating campaign. After only five minutes I manage to make him understand that this just is plain water. After further 10 minutes he is awilled to let me keep my bottle.f1" (The Party III) c03"f22600f4 people at the party meant a lot of commercial success for the organizers and - at least, if I may believe voices, I've heared - a lot of fun.f1" (The Party III) c02"f4Most of the 'guards' were unable, uninformed and even didn't manage to follow a fluent English. (...) They were even more humiliating and violent than last year. Kicking people who didn't 'obey' at once out of their sleep, getting hands on private property where they really have no right to without having asked first. The easiest problems they weren't able to solve.f1" (The Party V) c04f2 MUSIC COMPETITIONf1 c02"f4A possibly corrupt jury was the main indicator for the mistrust (...) There are two major opinions: 1.) The whole competition was one of the most obvious fakes in history of copyparties. 2.) The system was revolutionary and of course there have been several problemes, but else it was a fair contest.f1" (The Party II) c03"f4It seemed like the organizers had a totally weak soundequipment and picked songs to be played at the audience randomly.f1" (The Party III) c03"f4Noise, because many people seemingly feelt like the louder they blast their Techno-, Heavy- or whatever-garbage through the halls,the more influential they are.f1" (The Party III) c02"f4Taking 31 samples with maximum length of 65.534 bytes each, we get a theoretical maximum of 2.031.554 bytes for samples plus songdata. How much were the participators supposed to use? 390.000 bytes (plus some miserable ones). (...) It's like telling a e-guitarist that he might not use an amplifier plus boxes while his performance on stage as he could have advantages by using extra-equipment.f1" (The Party IV) c04f2 OTHER COMPETITIONS AND EQUIPMENTf1 c03"f4The mass of the productions have not been as good as I expected them to be. Just 'normal' effect-presentation and nearly nothing innovative. (...) Several big groups even did not manage to deliver a demo at all and therefore to me the whole competition was disappointing.f1" c02"f4I'd like to call this a good prove for my opinion that bass and volume only do not add together to a good sound. Else the audio- and video was (as expected) quite good.f1" (The Party II) c03"f4What was that at the PARTY III? All the best demos worked under AGA. (...) The graphics competition got overruled by AGA, so was the intro competition.f1" (The Party III) c04"f4The Amigians have stopped a long time ago to see the Scene as a matter for ego-boost by stunning people - it seems there are other Scenes in this small world that can do it better. We need a "party" in/near the French capital which promises us zillions of dollars to attract our attention, but others would go without, just to show that they are capable to create things unseen. (...) I was talking about the C64.f2" c04"f4On Amiga the standard equipment is an A1200 with 2MB chip and 2MB fast plus 120MB harddisk. No, we take (for the democompetition) an A1200 with 2MB chip plus one floppy. (...) Competitions should always run on the best compatible standard configuration available.f1" "f4Although I agree that the organizers misbehaved, there can never be a legitimation to create a virus and destroy others harddisks-contents. If I pick that guy, (...) he gets trouble as it was him giving the reason for letting us wait for the intro-compo.f1" (The Party IV) c02"f4A second (smaller) big screen would also not have been so bad for such an extreme hall, would it?f1" "f4Not to forget about the long loading times while the competitions - can't they afford a harddrive?f1" (The Party V) c04f3gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg f1 c03So much for our little trip back in time. Not many words have to be lost here any further, maybe except for the following: f2 You want to organise a new party? You want to succeed The Party?f1 Read through the words above thrice and draw conclusions from them. The right conclusions if possible.
