hpf1s3c04.------------------------------------. | | | Trauma knows, the Amiga hardware | | comes to an end, yet on which side | | does he stand? | | | `------------------------------------' c01 TALKING ABOUT THE HARDWARE OR WHAT? c02 by Trauma/Royal c03f4'Mr.XY/Z has sold his Amiga lately and moved to the PC Scene'. f1That's the most common sentence catching your eyes while reading the news corners in your favourite diskmags. An each-day-growing crowd of sceners (not written with capital 'S' - find out the easy-to-find meaning) who throw their girlfriends to dust of centuries, willing to find their bright future somewhere else. We all now, what's going on. It's unnecessary to explain. A couple of days ago, I have asked myself the following and simple question: f4'Why?' f1Have you ever tried to answer it to yourself? Why do the people leave The Scene? Why do they move to PC's? I have been thinking of it for a long time... ...and I'm sure it's c02NOT JUST FOR THE HARDWARE REASONS c03as stated everywhere and everynow! In the previous issue of c02Generation - The Magc03, I have talked about the nostalgia which isn't what it has ever been - the atmosphere - the feeling - and (of course) the commercionalism! Money makes the nowadays world go around. We live in the age of money, consumption and commerce - people grow up, they change, The Scene changes itself but c02THE AMIGA STAYS THE SAME c03and we can't cope with that! We're not able to be the same Sceners as we used to be. We're not able to feel what we used to feel, we're not able to create the atmosphere we have lived within. Anymore! We are somebody else and we cannot come back. The world doesn't allow us to. Yet it's right! We would have been primeval human beings if the things hadn't changed. c03Coders have lost their motivation, c03they don't want to work for nothing anymore. Therefore they move to the commercionalized PC world - simply, to make more money out of what they do. c03Graphicians/musicians? The same! c03They don't feel the former reasons, no fun anymore, no friendship anymore! Just those who haven't changed - stay. I'm one of them. I still feel myself as a member of the Big Family - The Amiga Scene. I still need fun and friendship. Maybe, somewhere in the near future I will lose it and move somewhere else. I don't know. What I surely know is the fact that if I move, it's not gonna be because of the always-spoken 'hardware reasons'. c03 LETTING THE SCENE PASS AWAY? c03AMIGA cannot be your whole life. Things as well as people come out and pass by into the nothingness of past time. Nothing is forever. So does AMIGA. It doesn't matter how much you love the computer. c02AMIGA wasn't with you from the very beginning of your life and it will not be with you at the very moment of thy death. c03Everything has its own purpose you need. When you lose it, don't hesitate to throw it and find something new. Stop yelling: f4'Those guys have betrayed us! They left the Scene for the lame PC!' f1and think of it this way - hasn't just AMIGA lost its purpose for them? Maybe they simply grew up and got more commercial-like (like the whole globe around)? They're not interested in words like f2'fun' f1and f2'friendship'f1? We're all growing up therefore we should understand. Personally, I really do! Let them go if they want to and don't think it's because of any hardware reason. The whole feeling is gone and AMIGA lost its purpose for them... Tell me: Are you still riding your skateboard you've used to 5 years ago? In 99 cases out of 100 I surely think YOU ARE NOT! You still love skating, you still love all the things around but you have grown up needing something else. That's the problem... f3c02THINK ABOUT IT.
