Connecting your TNC. ==================== To make AMIPAC 1.33 function properly, you must use hardware handshake. Make sure, that the cabel between your AMIGA and the TNC is connected like this: AMIGA TNC 1 ------------- 1 2 ------------- 2 3 ------------- 3 4 ------------- 4 5 ------------- 5 6 ------------- 6 7 ------------- 7 8 ------------- 8 20 ------------- 20 Tayloring your own startup-sequence. ==================================== ASSIGN'ing AmiPac: AmiPac 1.33 uses the device Amipac: for these system files: Amipac.clock Amipac.cmd Amipac.colors Amipac.conn Amipac.log Amipac.F1 Amipac.F2 Amipac.F3 Amipac.F4 Amipac.F5 Amipac.F6 Amipac.F7 Amipac.F8 Amipac.F9 Amipac.F10 On the distribution disk, AmiPac: it ASSIGN'ed to df0:. If you don't like the idea of writing to the system disk, you may ASSIGN to RAM:, but you'll have to copy the above mentioned files to RAM: as well. Exchange the default line in the file SYS:AmiPac ASSIGN AMIPAC: DF0: With these 2 lines: ASSIGN AMIPAC: RAM: COPY DF0:AMIPAC.* TO RAM: Remember, that if you ASSIGN AmiPac: to RAM: that you can't save changes in the systemfiles permanently! If you want to keep changes, you've got to ASSIGN to a disk resident device, i.e a partition on the hard disk (if you have got one), or an external floppydrive. ---------------------------------------------------------- Assume that you'd better like to ASSIGN to a special dumpdisk, and that this disk is named "PacketDump". First FORMAT a blank disk. Rename it PacketDump. And: MAKEDIR PacketDump:AmiPac COPY SYS:AmiPac.* TO PacketDump:AmiPac Now change SYS:AmiPac of your system disk. (The one you wish to boot AmiPac from). ASSIGN AMIPAC: PACKETDUMP:AMIPAC Should the system need the Amipac: device, but not being able to find it, maybe because you've changed disk to send a specific file, the program will switch to the WorkBench screen and request DEVICE:AMIPAC. Don't panic!!! Just replace the device, or cancel, if you wish. Then press L-AMIGA "M", and the AmiPac screen is back in front! ========================================================== AMIPAC 1.33 allowes you to use your own national keyboard. Open the COUNTRY drawer in the DOCS directory, and you'll see a number of icons, sta- ting each their nationality. Click your own, and the keymap, font and clock will be copied to the system. This will obviously write to the disk, so do this only to your work-copy! Should your country not be in the selection, peek in one of the files, to see how it is set up and edit your own! If you want the startup-sequence to run AMIPAC right away, you should edit the s/startup-sequence, by changing the line: ;execute AMIPAC by removing the semicolon to: execute AMIPAC The AmiPac file that is being executed looks something like this: ;this is a comment. Just execute this script to RUN AmiPac 1.xx ;e.g. AmiPac1.33 4800 1 0 16384 1 ;= 4800 baud, log Yes, clock No, buffer 16384 bytes, USA = Yes. Assign AmiPac: df0: SYS:System/setmap I FF -0 ;run MouseOff ;kill the pointer after 5 seconds of mouse inactivity (in C:) ;and return if the mouse will be moved sys:brh's/Serial_Empter1.5 4800 ;the same of AmiPac. It avoid slow characters sys:AmiPac1.33 4800 1 1 16384 0 ;for me the preferred are: 4800 baud, log Yes, clock Yes, buffer 16384 bytes, USA = No. The file "serial_Empter1.5" is supposed to empty the serial buffer, in order to avoid overrun, if the TNC's monitor was not closed on exit at last use of the program. I.e. the computer was switched off without using the closegad- get, CTRL-Q or BYE! in the LOG> menu. The parameter of this command is your preffered baudrate, which MUST be the same as used for AmiPac1.33. More about this in a minute! Should you own a PK88 you must add an extra line immediately after the seriel_empter1.5 command. Namely: Type c/mon to ser: The file c/mon just contains the word "MON". This could in fact be any com- mand. The only reason for it, is to give PK88 something to think about, to prevent it from interfering while AmiPac1.33 is loading. At the same time it tells you, in which state you last left the TNC. The last line actualy starts the main program. The parameters in order of ap- pearence are: Baudrate: Use the same baudrate as issued by the Serial_Empter1.5 com- mand. Distribution disk uses 4800 baud. Log: 1 = Log on 0 = Log off Clock: 1 = Clock on 0 = Clock off Buffer size: Usually 16384 bytes. USA: Calendar format. 1 = e.g Friday October 13 0 = e.g Friday 13 October all parameters MUST be supplied in this order. IMPORTANT !!!! ********************************************* * * * If you make changes in the file SYS:AmiPac, be aware * * that it will be overwritten, if you execute any of the * * "country" files in the Docs/country drawer. To be sure * * to keep your OWN setup, edit the AmiPAC. * * file in the above mentioned drawer !! Then open the * * drawer from workbench, and execute the file of your * * country to make it operative. * * * ************************************************************ TNC Parameter files. ==================== The disk currently contains 2 SetUp files: SetKPC2 and SetPK88 The SetKPC2 is for the KANTRONICS KPC-2 TNC, and shows how Silvano wants the setups for this TNC. The SetPK88 is written by the author of this doc file. To set up the PK88, I find it best to remove the batteries in the TNC, to get the default parameters on power up. The reason is, that PK88 may latch up if fooled too much around in the parameters, and that this is impossible to get out with the batteries installed. Instead the I use the "Send ASCII" feature on the SetPK88 file immediatly after powerup of the TNC. The 5 stars in the first line set the autobaud to that of AMIPAC. The following lines then alters the parameters, that are not suitable for AMIPAC as default. Remember, that when you change MYCALL and other personal parameters, that some texteditors end the lines only with a line feed character. PK88 won't like this.
