             Welcome to the MUSIC section of this issue's AM/FM!

As  usual,  we  start off with some general info about the music section.  If
you've read this before in previous AM/FM issues, just skip a couple of pages
down.

How to use the menu

First,  some general info about how things work around here.  You pick a song
from  the menu - the song will load, decrunch and play.  Please be aware that
when the drive light goes out, and there's still no music, just hang in there
for  a little while longer, because the player program is now decrunching the
song before it starts playing it.  This can take some 2-10 seconds, depending
on the size of the song, so just have little patience.

Second, there's nothing really stopping you from running a song while another
one is already playing, but I wouldn't recommend this, because the sound will
be  an awful mess.  So before you choose another song to listen to, make sure
you  stop  the  one  that's  already  playing, by pressing both mouse buttons
simultaneously, anywhere on the screen will do fine.


YOUR music on the next issue of AM/FM?

The  music  brought  to  you  through  AM/FM will always be new, fresh, never
earlier  released  material  (except  under very special circumstances).  The
composers  are  mainly  the musicians working with AM/FM, showing off some of
the newest techniques and a whole lot of creativity to create what we like to
think of as some of the best Amiga-produced music around.  In addition to our
"regular"  contributors,  anyone  who  feels  like  having their music in the
hottest  music  magazine  around  should send it to us - and if we think it's
good enough, we will publish it in the next issue of AM/FM, and of course you
will get your disk back with that issue on it.

Having  said that, keep in mind that the people who are running this magazine
aren't  millionaires,  so  please  include  return postage, or else we cannot
guarantee  that you will get your disk(s) back.  If sufficient return postage
is  included, you will get everything you send to us sent back - and that's a
PROMISE.   So  before  you send anything to us, go to the post office and ask
for international return coupons, and include them in your letters.

                                 "Streetbeat"

                           For AM/FM by Paal Teien

Paal says:

Well,  what  is  there  to be said about this module then?  I got the idea for
this  module  one  day  while I was listening to Public Enemy's Apocalypse 91.
One  of  the  songs  features a neat police siren sequence with people running
around screaming etc.  So I started to check through some sample- disks trying
to  find  a  police siren, and after some sweaty minutes I found one (I had to
downsample  it  though,  so the quality of the sample can be questioned)!  The
rest  of the samples fitted naturally with the siren, so the rest was a couple
of  nights  work  and  voila, Streetbeat was born!  The samples I used in this
module  came  from  a  Korg Wavestation, Korg M1 and some Proteus sounds.  The
samples were sampled by Kim Jensen and Anders Hamre.

                                 "Dark Star"

                           For AM/FM by S. J. Pain

Here's  a nice, mellow piece from Mr.  S.  J.  Pain of Avon, England, which is
composed  with  MED and uses only synthesized sounds.  The MED module was only
about  25  kb  big, and it was turned into executable format with ModProcessor
and then packed down to about 9 kb with PowerPacker.

(A  note  from  the Editor to Mr.  Pain himself and everyone else who might be
wondering  about  song  sizes and how to find the size of a song:  Please note
this song wasn't 6 kb big, it was 25.  If you want to see how big a song turns
out, you should save it as a "Module", and not as "Song+Samples".  The size of
this  "Module"  file is the actual size of the song, including the instruments
and everything.

                                 "Quantum-2"

                       For AM/FM by Robert Korzeniewski

Not  much  to  say  about  this song really, except that it's nice and poppy -
repeatitive  in  a  pleasant  way.   Nice,  original  muted  snare drum, and a
"techno" sound to it all.  Most of all though, it simply is a very nice tune.

                                 "Messing Up"

                         For AM/FM by Sami Jumppanen

Watch  out,  all  techno/acid freaks out there - this piece by Sami is utterly
great,  if you're into this kind of music.  The sounds are just SO synthetic -
it's all pssssssychadelic!  Let it run for a while and you will eventually tap
your feet, whether you like the style or not.
