Welcome to the MUSIC section of this issue's AM/FM! How to use the menu First, some general info about how things work around here. You pick a song from the menu - the song will load, decrunch and play. Please be aware that when the drive light goes out, and there's still no music, just hang in there for a little while longer, because the player program is now decrunching the song before it starts playing it. This can take some 2-10 seconds, depending on the size of the song, so just have little patience. Second, there's nothing really stopping you from running a song while another one is already playing, but I wouldn't recommend this, because the sound will be an awful mess. So before you choose another song to listen to, make sure you stop the one that's already playing, by pressing both mouse buttons simultaneously, anywhere on the screen will do fine. YOUR music on the next issue of AM/FM? The music brought to you through AM/FM will always be new, fresh, never earlier released material (except under very special circumstances). The composers are mainly the musicians working with AM/FM, showing off some of the newest techniques and a whole lot of creativity to create what we like to think of as some of the best Amiga-produced music around. In addition to our "regular" contributors, anyone who feels like having their music in the hottest music magazine around should send it to us - and if we think it's good enough, we will publish it in the next issue of AM/FM, and of course you will get your disk back with that issue on it. "RADHA SOAMI" - by David Elfstrom Composed one night in July, just as I had stopped reading 'The Master Answers' by M.C. Singh, I got some small ideas about a drum beat that had been lurking in my mind for ages.... After a few minutes the drum beat was there, but all alone. So I began to add some strings, basslines and some other sounds from my sound library. After 3 hours the tune was finished and the time was about 5 a.m. and I felt pretty dizzy. The Tune: Composed on MED 3.00 and then converted to ProTracker 1.1b. Thanx to Teijo Kinnunen (AmigaNuts United P.D.) for MED. The Title: (Indian) 'RADHA'-> Soul, 'SOAMI'-> Lord. (Lord of the Soul) I took it from the Sant Mat teachings (or Radha Soami teachings), where Radha Soami also is a term for GOD. The Samples: The drums were sampled from my drum machine Roland R5. The BSynth and Acid Sounds were taken from the tune Scrambled Mine by Rebels (hope you dont mind!) The rest were sampled from Micke H.'s synthesizer. Dedicated To: Maharaj Gurinder Singh Ji. (Our present master) Thanx to: My girlfriend (for support and love), My brother (for support) All friends (for just being you).... "HORROR!" - by Bjorn A. Lynne Everybody's watched horror movies! Evil powers, exorcism, dark caves, haunted houses... And surely you've noticed the music used to add atmosphere to the movies. Have you ever tried turning off the sound while watching one of these? The movie loses at least half of it's "fright-level", it just isn't scary anymore - which goes to show that the music is a VERY important part of any movie, perhaps especially the scary ones. With this song I tried to reproduce the scary feeling of one of those standard "haunted house" horror movies. The song starts off with a mens choir moaning and groaning, then some thin female voices are added, and then some tapping strings. It all carries on until some 2 1/2 minutes into the song, when obviously something happens in the movie (oh my god, it's the killer turtles!) and the song hurdles into a thumping beat with a deep, macho kind of bass line, still with the men's choir on top. However, the bad guys go into hiding again after a little while, and the song is back to it's creepy, lurking mood. All the samples in this piece were taken from a Roland U110 and a Korg DW8000.
