*********************************** AM/FM *********************************** Dumping Sysex Data between your Amiga and the Korg Wavestation By Kon Wilms --- Dumping --- Ok so dumping sysex isn't that complicated but I for one know that some people do have problems with doing this. So here's what to do and what to look out for: There are a number of GENERIC sysex recieve/dump programs which will work just fine with the WS, WS-EX and WS-AD. Check back issues of AM/FM for these. 'SYSEX' and 'MIDICOM' can be found in said back issues and will work 100%. Some sysex programs can recieve multiple sysex's and store them all in one file. This is especially useful for the WS series. You should specify 3 segments and then dump your wavesequences, patches and finally performances from ROM, RAM1, RAM2, etc into the Amiga. --- Bugs while dumping/recieving sysex --- Some WS's have a number of small bugs. You might or might not have these depending on your WS firmware version. 1. If you dump to and from the WS a lot you might find that the data isn't transmitting to the WS after some time. Just power everything down and switch on again and it will work fine. (You will have to reset your Amiga too). 2. If you play a note while the sysex is being transmitted or hold a note just before and into the transmission of data into the WS the data might not come through. So keep your hands off the keys at all times. 3. If you also press the keys when transmitting this might mess up the transmission. 4. The Amiga handles only a small amount of Kb at a time in it's buffer so your dumps MUST be separate parts (ie wavesequence, perf, patch). The WS transmits over 64kb for an entire RAM1, RAM2 etc dump. (Go check out your Amiga preferences if you're not with me) :-) 5. Sometimes the data will will go through but when you dump it back to the WS nothing happens on the sysex-page. Obviously you have been fiddling while dumping. Just do the dump again. If it doesn't work just reboot the WS and Amiga. --- Lastly... --- Hopefully you should have no problems using your WS with sysex now. Remember lastly to always CHECK and BACKUP your sysex dumps. Happy dumping! :-) *********************************** AM/FM *********************************** Additional Notes from the AM/FM Editor: All the Wavestation Perfs are stored in the directory "Wavestation-stuff" on this AM/FM disk. They are all crunched with Powerpacker, and must be decrunched before they can be used. To do this, use a proper version of Powerpacker, or the "decrunch" command stored in the c: directory of this disk. The generic sysex dumping programs SYSEX and MIDICOM that Kon mentioned above can be found on the following AM/FM disks: MIDICOM: AM/FM Issue 7 SYSEX : AM/FM Issue 8 Special thanks to Kon Wilms for his wonderful collection of articles this time; The Hiphop grooves, the Wavestation perfs that go with them, and the superb description of all of it. Thanks Kon! [Ed] *********************************** AM/FM ***********************************
