THE UTILITIES ON THIS ISSUE OF AM/FM:    GLIB GLIB is a synth sound storage and editing system written by Tim Thompson, Steve Falco and Alan Bland. The program is able to communicate with the following synthesizers: Yamaha DX100, Yamaha TX81, Korg DW8000, Kawai K5. We have only actually tested it with a Korg DW8000, and sure enough, it works like a charm, and offers a very nice alternative to storing sounds on audio tape, which is this somewhat strange synthesizers only other way of storing numerous data banks. (Rather like the old ZX Spectrum!) In the utilities directory on this disk, there are also 3 different sound banks for anyone out there with a DW8000, with lots of really nice sounds - these files are called soundbank1.dw8, soundbank2.dw8 and soundbank3.dw8. If any of you readers out there want to dump them into your own DW8000, please feel free to do so, but remember to store your own old sound bank first, as once you dump one of the soundbanks supplied here into your synth, there is no other way of getting your old ones back. So make sure you download your setup and store it on a disk before you upload anything to the synth. If you have other DW8000 setups, or any other synth soundbanks which can be used with GLIB, please send it on an Amiga file to AM/FM, so other owners of the same synth can enjoy them too! Remember, if you send a disk with any kind of material for AM/FM, you will get the next issue of AM/FM back. For further info on GLIB, refer to the full documentation in the Utilities section of this AM/FM issue. *********************************** AM/FM ***********************************  PROTIMER This little utility, written by Arndt Kubosch, quickly and easily computes the playing time of any Noise/ProTracker module. It reads the playing speed, any position-jumps, tempo-changes, pattern-breaks etc. throughout the module and comes up with the play-time in minutes and seconds. Neat if you want to make your own music-compilation with playing time also stated. You save time by not having to use your stop-watch to find out for how long each of the songs play. ProTimer can also be used on Noise/ProTracker SONG files, but only if the song was saved with the "Pack song" option turned off. Usage and further documentation in the Utilities section. *********************************** AM/FM ***********************************  MIDI ANALYZER It happens every now and then to all MIDI users. You're sure you're doing everything right, but still, it doesn't work like you want it to. Or even worse - it doesn't work at all! Is that Program Change really being transmitted? Does it reach it's destination, through your network of MIDI cables and synth modules? Does that synth over there transmit Aftertouch messages? Are your leads working properly? Is your MIDI interface ready for the bin? Those are the times when you wish you had the Midi Analyzer from Paul Overaa. Well lighten up, because now you have it. The Midi Analyser gives you a quick and complete overview of what's really going on out there, displaying each MIDI signal received, separately for each channel. More about usage and detailed documentation in the utilities section of this issue of AM/FM. *********************************** AM/FM ***********************************  SUPERECHO Also known as "Kevin's Amazing Echo Machine", this program can generate superb live audio effects if you have a sound sampler. Just plug in your sampler, connect a microphone and try it out - some of the effects it can generate are really stunning, including echo, pitch changing (without speed changing), delay and more. SuperEcho is a lot of fun to play around with, it gives you a whole new way of using your sound sampler.
