The FILE ID looks like this: " MakeKey v1.10 Keyfilemaker for Virus Checker Cracked. -----------------------( EAGLE's NEST! )---- " In reality this file contains a nasty trojan, which tries to format your SYS: device (DOS1 bootcode) and give it the new name "Snupp!". If I can read my autodocs correct, only a quickformat will be done. Try to use Disksalv to recover the data on your sys: device. In the unpacked code you can read: "WiREFACE / dEMONS oF tHE pENTAGRAM * WHiPPED YOUR HD, SUKKAH !! We Look " "Down Your Nose (Laughter)!" The dangerous code was linked using the 4eb9 linking method on the normal makekey programm from the actual VirusChecker distribution. The dangerous code is packed with powerpacker 4.0 (5848 bytes long). This was probably done to shorten the whole file and to crypt the visible texts. The unpacked viruscode is 7588 bytes long. (Do you really think that such a lame protection can stop a good antivirus- researcher from doing its job ????) VT 2.74 and VW 5.2 atleast recognize a $4eb9 linker in the file. Another viruskiller, which claims to recognize 4eb9 files, does not detect it. I only believe is trying to /educate/ people on the damage that piracy is capable of causing. If they are running such a program however, I can only feel about 50% bad for them. Also those mongrels who have been using the fake key registered to Nobody have probably realised by now that the key has been disabled. Tough shit for you if you have been using this key. If you think it is important enough to use the LHA/Zoo unpacking built into Virus_Checker via unpack.library then you should maybe consider sending me a little support instead of just picking up a fake key. All fake keys will eventually get back to me and as they do they will be disabled. Don't blame me. All archives of Virus_Checker have the proper pgp sig files so that they can be checked. I cannot be responsable for what happens to the archives after they leave here. I can say get them off Aminet as they are always legit there. I have 2 furthur things to say. 1. If you are running a BBS and don't have proper backups then you only have yourself to blame. I back my drives up at least once per week and usually more. 2.
