Many applications of Necromantic Skills refer to the Ectoplasmic Energy Pool (EEP). This is a Dice pool representing the amount of... Ectoplasmic Energy! (Big surprise, eh?) within the Necromancers aura at any given point. Ectoplasmic Energy is formed or taken by the Soulfires or Projection Necromancy Concentrations from Ghosts Ectoplasm, or the Living energy of the Necromancers own aura (as represented in Shadowrun by Essence or Karma). This Pool may be used in any way the Karma Pool can, except that Karma Pool uses which require the PERMANENT loss of a Karma Pool Die CANNOT use the Ectoplasmic Energy Pool for it.
The Ectoplasmic Energy Pool can hold permanent dice, representing segments of the Necromancers aura that have actually altered to become ectoplasmic in nature, and temporary dice, representing "loose" ectoplasm that the Necromancer only "holds". In Game Terms, this can most easily be recorded by two separated numbers (for example, Drakkon The Necromancer has an EEP: 4/7... or (4)7, depending on how you want to note it :-) This indicates that he has 4 permanent points in the EEP and an additional 3 temporary points (for a total of 7, neh?)). Note that creating both temporary or permanent EEP Dice involves Necromantic Skill use, and the values below are the BASE values, refer to the specific skill descriptions for how many EEP Dice ACTUALLY get created.
Temporary EEP Dice fade with time: every 10 minutes, 1 point of the Pool vanishes (The necromancer may use Soulfires skill to delay this effect: multiply the Base time by successes vs. a Tgt# = the TOTAL Points in the Ectoplasmic Energy Pool). Temporary EEP Dice NEVER refresh (kinda obviously)... Temporary EEP Dice used or that fade are GONE. Using Necromancy skill (Soulfires and/or Projection Concentrations), a Necromancer can add temporary EEP Dice by absorbing Ghostly ectoplasm, converting Karma Pool Dice on a 1:1 basis, or converting Good Karma points to 1 Temporary EEP Die at a Good Karma Cost = the number of Current Permanent EEP Dice. Note that while Karma Pool Dice will refresh normally once the EEP dice have faded, Good Karma so invested is permanently lost.
Permanent EEP Dice refresh whenever Soulfires-drained dice replace the used Dice within the EEP or when the Karma Pool does. Using Necromancy Skill (or Projection Concentration), a Necromancer can add Permanent EEP Dice by permanently converting a Karma Pool Die into an EEP Die, converting Good Karma to 1 Permanent EEP Die at a Good Karma Cost = 3x the number of Current Permanent EEP Dice, or by directly transforming his own aura (0.5 Essence = 1 Permanent EEP Die) into ectoplasm.
