                        FCOPY CABLE DESCRIPTION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The FCopy backup program needs two specific cables:
(1) paralel cable between the C64's User Port and the DiskDrive
(2) paralel cable between the C64 and the PC

                        1. THE DISK DRIVE CABLE
                        -----------------------

This cable is an ordinary cable between the C64's User Port and the
C64-DiskDrive. Such cables are also used when working with Speeddos,
Dolphin-Dos or similar C64 Disk Operating Systems.
Fcopy needs such a cable for fast loading and saving of disk-images.
Usually, no Speeddos or Dolphindos -alike ROMs are neccesary.
With this cable programs like 'FCopy-III' and '15 sec. copy' will also
work.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
THE FOLLOWING IS ONLY TRUE FOR OLD 1541'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have another type of Drive, you can try without harming your
equipment, if you have a 1571 you'll have to 'downgrade' the
Bios-Kernal to the old 1541-kernal.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Open your C64 Diskdrive, and take a closer look at the big chips at
the middle of the board. In my 1541 there are four chips in a row,
named on the circuit-board as UC1, UC2, UC3, and UC4.
UC4 is a 6502, UC2 & UC3 both are a 6522.
You have to connect 10 wires to the 6522 chip in UC3, the chip next to
the 6502.
You can either connect the wires directly to the bottom of the circuit
board (preferred, less chance of shorted wires, and fewer problems with
static electricity) or you may want to connect the cable to an extra
extra 40 pin socket with sturdy pins, into which the 6522 is inserted.
(lower chance of blowing up your 6522 chip during soldering.) Watch out
when handling the 6522. It is extremely sensitive to static electricity
when taken out of the circuit board!

                        2. THE PC <-> C64 CABLE
                        -----------------------

This cable is specially designed for use with the Fcopy-PC program.
The cable will connect both C64 joystickports to the PC's paralel
port.

You need a 25 pins connector, male, for the PC:

       \ ------------------------------------------------------/
        \ 13 12 11 10 09 08 07 06 05 04 03 02 01 /

           \-----------------------------------------------/

You also need _two_ 9-pins c64 joyconnectors, female:

                     \------------------------/
                      \ 01 02 03 04 05 /

                        \ 06 07 08 09 /
                         \----------------/

The 'X' marks a 1K resistor! These are essential to prevent the PC from
blowing up your C64 output!
