Personal C64 ordering information --------------------------------- Unlike the licensed version, the shareware version contains two limitations. First, you can control your games only with the keyboard, so you cannot connect external analog or digital joysticks. Second, the comfortable file transfer options in the emulation are disabled. Thus you can only execute programs that are already located on your hard disk. The licensed full version can be ordered with the order form that is in the end of this file. Its costs depend on the configuration you want. But you should read the following text through first, so that you also order the correct cable. Which cable do I need? ---------------------- Unfortunately it is impossible to read 1541 disks in the 5.25" drive of the PC. In order to get your C64 programs to the emulator, you will need a C64 or a C128 with a disk drive and the PC64 cable. You can either order it together with PC64 or build it yourself following the connection diagram in the manual or in the online help. After you have cloned and started the server program L64 on the C64, you can access the C64 disk drives directly from the emulator. It works in a similar manner than copying from a network disk drive in Windows File manager. In addition, you can make 1:1 copies of whole single sided disks if you are using a 1541, 1570 or 1571 disk drive. The built-in fastloader will do it in 1 minute and 40 seconds. By the way, the PC64 cable is not compatible with the X1541 cable, with the C64S adapter or with the C64Alive cable. But you can import files from these programs to PC64 that are already stored on your hard disk. How is it with joysticks? ------------------------- Here you have two possibilities: 1) You already have a Game port card and an analog joystick for IBM compatible computers. Then you can use it in PC64 without problem and do not need to buy any further adapter. The same applies for the hard-to-find digital IBM joysticks, which actually also produce analog signals. The joystick won't slow down the emulation like in the Beta version 12, which didn't access the hardware directly. 2) You have no Game port card and do not want to install any in the near future. Or you want to play on your laptop. Or the IBM joysticks are too expensive for you or not stable enough. In this case you can connect your old digital C64 joystick to the PC by ordering the Alternative joystick adaptor or by building it yourself. But this will only work with Personal C64, you cannot control normal PC games with it.
