.R:B .L:65 .X:7 The Psionic (A New Class of Character) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Psionics are a class who specialize in the use and discipline of the powers of the mind. A Psionic may be of any alignment. A Psionic must have an intelligence of 13+. If intelligence is 15+ then the Psionic gains a 10% bonus to experience points awarded by the referee. Like other classes that depend mainly on intelligence, the Psionic uses four-sided hit dice. Psionics can't multi-class, and may only two-class as a thief. Only humans, elves, 1/2 elves and 1/2 orcs may be Psionics. Psionics have the following abilities: 1) The Psionic class character gains one attack and one defense mode per level up to fifth level (when all the modes will have been acquired). These modes may be picked by the character. 2) They gain one minor discipline every other level (1st, 3rd, etc.). These disciplines may be picked by the character, except for the discipline gained at 1st level. 3) They gain one major discipline every sixth level (6th, 12th, etc.). These disciplines may be picked by the character. 4) A Psionic class character's psionic strength points are calculated differently from characters who just happen to have some psionic ability. Follow these steps to determine psionic strength points: 4.1) Start with an initial total of 50 points. 4.2) Add a the result of a roll from 1 to 50. 4.3) Add 1 point for each point of intelligence, wisdom and charisma above 12. If two of these charteristics are 16+ then double the points from this section. If three are 16+, quadruple the points. 4.4) Total of 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 = starting psionic strength points. 4.5) Beginning at 12th level, add 1d12 points to strength point total upon achieving each new level. DM + 2 1/2 per point of intelligence 16+. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The following restrictions apply to Psionics: 1) They are limited to wearing leather armor. Upon reaching 6th level they may wear studded leather. 2) Psionics are limited to the use of darts, daggers, slings and short swords. 3) Demi-human psionics are resticted in level advancement by intelligence as follows: 3.1) An intelligence of 16- restricts the character to 6th level. 3.2) An intelligence of 17 restricts the character to 9th level. 3.3) An intelligence of 18 restricts the character to 12th level. 3.4) An intelligence of 19+ has no level restrictions. 4) In order to advance beyond rudimentary psionic ability (5th level), the character must study under a qualified psionics instructor. The following rules apply to psionic study: 4.1) Basic study lasts 11-20 (d10+10) weeks and costs 100 g.p. per week. 4.2) To be a psionics instuctor the Psionic must undergo another 11- 20 (d10+10) weeks of advanced study after attaining 12th level. 1/2 orcs may not be psionics instructors. Advanced study costs 300 g.p. per week. 5) A Psionic has a percentage chance (per day) of having a random encounter with a psionic NPC or creature. Chances are determined as follows: 5.1) Add +1% per level from 1st to 5th level. 5.2) Add +2% per level from 6th to 11th level. 5.3) Add +3% per level from 12th level on up. 5.4) On a day when the Psionics don't use thier powers there is a percentage chance equal to the character's level . 5.5) For example: 10th level Psionics have a 15% chance of a psionic encounter on a day they use thier powers, and a 10% chance on a day they don't. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The following axillary information applies to Psionics: 1) An individual usually discovers thier talent while going through the physical and emotional upheavals of puberty. As a result thier starting age is rather young. Ages are determined as follows: 1.1) Humans start at 14 + 1d4 years of age. 1.2) Elves start at 100 + 10d6 years of age. 1.3) 1/2 elves start at 22 + 1d12 years of age. 1.4) 1/2 orcs start at 11 + 1d4 years of age. 2) Psionics save as Magic-Users. They also gain a +2 on saves vs. mind control type spells. 3) Psionics attack on the Thief/Assassin table. They gain no multiple for back-stabbing unless two-classed as a thief. 4) Psionics start with 20-80 g.p. (2d4 x 10). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Psionic Experience Table --- Experience Points Level Hit Dice Title 0 - 1500 1 1 Moron 1501 - 3000 2 2 Dunce 3001 - 5000 3 3 Student 5001 - 15,000 4 4 Thinker 15,001 - 45,000 5 5 Projector 45,001 - 75,000 6 6 Psionic 75,001 - 105,000 7 7 " 105,001 - 135,000 8 8 " 135,001 - 170,000 9 9 " 170,001 - 215,000 10 10 " 215,001 - 365,000 11 11 " 365,001 - 665,000 12 12 Brain +300,000 pts/level 13 12+2 Brain etc. etc. etc. etc. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (Save as PSIONIC.CLA)
