I thought that was you, I already got it from Aminet, MPEG2 support even sounded cool to the PC freaks here at work :^) BTW: Anybody here had any success with SASPPC ? I can make an ELF with it but it refuses to load, giving an RELOC_24 not found type of error, it works fine with GNU-C generated ELFs. I just took the routines that we tuned for the compiler, and put them on top of PPCAllocMem() on the PPC. malloc() is tuned to give best performance when allocating and freeing memory of small sizes many times. Hi! On the sales CD there is only the PPC-680x0+FPU Version but a PPC-No680x0 Version is no problem and will be made available as soon (soo= n ???) as the PPC cards or the A1200 arrive. As I`ve hard the first cards to come are the 603e which need an 68060 or and 68040 to run and both have a FPU inside... The best thing about the ppc-no fpu version will be ofcourse that it`s no= t only version 4.33 but something about 4.60 which is faster because of som= e improvements. The typical request starts off with; " I've contacted the Phase 5 technical department 3-4 times for help, but have received no answer... ". Luckily I've managed to get superior assistance from one of their technicians (part-time and student) who has been more than helpful, sending updates to the SCSI controller's Flash ROM, detailed and more importantly, timely advice. Nobody else even answers my e-mails unless I fax Wolf Dietrich and tell him of the service levels that his company offers. Their business phone numbers are listed on their web page. Maybe, if they realize that it's not just dealers who are fed up with this, they will smarten up and start doing their jobs. I have a program that I want to convert to a PPC version but it relies heavily on ....Tags() function calls. Anyway, I was wondering how long it would be before a Tags version would be available? Will it be worthwhile to convert them all to arrays or should I wait? I don't mind waiting about a month, but if it is longer I'll just go ahead and make the array conversion. You might want to have a look at vbcc on aminet which includes a libamiga.a that also has stubs for TagList-functions. Due to the strange PPC-stackframes they have to do a bit of hacking, but it seems to work. It should be possible to link this library to SAS-compiled code, but I never tried. It is possible to convert between the two types of varargs if you know the size and number of arguments, which you do (or can find out easily) in the case of Tag lists. I have some code (for GCC) that does this for RawDoFmt() style varargs. Mail me if you want it. The stubs will not be very efficient, due to the way that the varargs stuff is done on the PPC. The stub will basically have to count how many parms there are by using the va_arg() macro, then allocate an array big enough, fill the array, call the Tags version of the function, and then free the array. I just consider it part of the conversion process. This will be a learning process for me. At this point I don't care about the nasty slowness of doing PPC to ROM calls. Once I get it working on PPC, then I'll work on the optimization. At this point I'm planning on using the PPC function in cybergraphics and the new PPC API that Holger added to Miami. Thanks James. But I now have another problem. When I compile for m68k-amigaos-gcc everything works well, but when I compile for ppc-amigaos-gcc the linker can't link a file called crt0.o. It says Unable to open file: file type not recognised or something to that effect. Can anyone help whith this? With the use of TAG_MORE, it would be possible to create stubs that do not need the va_arg() macros, since the parameter are actually in two places on the stack (assuming no FP parms). The problem is that the parameters are not in order on the stack. Some are passed in registers. To avoid dublicate code (and to guarantee dublicate bugs :-), write a function to perform the conversion, counting the number of bytes of arguments as it goes, and let take a NULL pointer to just count arguments without copying them. Works fine and _much_ faster than any other printf() implementation I've attempted. Speaking of printf() speed, I've watched with a mixture of amusement and dispair the speed of stdio in mpg123 (ixemul) and lha_ppc (SAS/C stdio). My own latest attempt at using libnix' vprintf() code resulted in what can best be described as a joke, speedwise, even with cacheflushing disabled for FPutC(), CloseLocale() and IsAlpha() and friends. I can send you the source if you want it. I must confess that I'm a bit confused by this discussion. The varargs-stubs from vbcc's libamiga.a simply store the registers containing the first variable arguments just below the stack-parameters in the caller's stack-frame (after saving the stack-slot that gets overwritten, of course). This is simple, fast and all the arguments end up in one continuous array without having to know the number of arguments or semantics of the function. The problems is that the ABI used on the powerup boards passes the first 8 arguments in registers, even for varargs calls. On the m68k, all varargs arguments are passed on the stack, so the OS calls are expected to pass a pointer to the first argument. It's just more convenient to use GCC the normal way. I'm currently trying to implement setjmp()/longjmp() for ppc-amigaos-gcc. I'm running into a few problems, though: 1) I didn't know how these two function work until yesterday. 2) I'm not familiar with the PPC stackframe. 3) I'm not familiar with PPC asm. 4) I wouldn't be able to implement them on the m68k either. I had a look at the way setjmp() is implemented on the m68k (ixemul/libnix/vbcc). The basic idea seems to be to save the calling address and all non-scratch registers (including the stack pointer, A7). Looking at vbcc's PPC version, it appears to save R9 : an unknown (to me) value from R2 R10: loaded with the stack pointer (R1) R11: loaded with the link register (LR) R12: loaded with the condition code register (CR) R13: small data area pointer R14: non-scratch register ... R31: non-scratch register ???: R9-R31 take up 23 longs, but the jump_buf is 24 longs. This is mostly clear enough to me, but the contents of R2 on entry to setjmp() and the contents of R9 on entry to longjmp() puzzle me. Of course, if I had descriptions (that I can understandı) of lmw/stmw, it would probably help a lot. Any pointers? Oh, and why are the non-volatile floating point register not saved? ı I.e. not the ones from .
