Intention of Overlay ==================== The overlay is intended to assist with the location of Her Majesty's Coastguard (HMCG) Marine Rescue Co-ordination Sub-Centres (MRSC) and the Irish Marine Emergency Services (IMES) Centres and Sub Centres which may be contacted for either: - Local Information relating to prevailing and forecast weather and tidal and navigation information. - To provide Search and Rescue assistance in the event of a marine emergency. The Mapper Listing offers the following information: ==================================================== The Icon "CG" shows the location of the Coastguard Station. The first field gives the NAME OF THE COAST GUARD STATION The second field gives the TEL NO and VHF/MF calling channel/frequency(kHz). The NAME OF THE COAST GUARD STATION is given in the following format: MRCC/MRSC - (Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre or Sub Centre) STATION NAME (i.e. Belfast) - The name of the station to be used in VHF or MF Radio calling. In this example you would call "Belfast Coastguard" The STATION NAME name may differ from the name of the nearest geographical town. For instance on BELFAST Coastguard is no longer located in a town in the Belfast but in Bangor. The TEL NO is the UK Telephone number, including STD Code, of the Coastguard Station or for the Eire stations is the central number as it should be dialled FROM THE UK. The numbers should be used for general enquires or for the reporting of emergencies. In the event of the number being busy when reporting an emergency then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard (in NI) or MARINE EMERGENCY (in Eire). You will be put through to the station on another, secret, number. FREQUENCY - The VHF calling channel or MF Frequency (in kHz) to be used given in the prefered calling order. NB IMES CG stations do not monitor 2182kHz MF - This is left to the Irish Coast Radio Stations.
