X Smaller & Smaller X ___The demo Scene as a whole, has become smaller and smaller over the past year or so. With some of the biggest names leaving for commercial reasons, or moving over to the PC, and groups becoming even more inactive. What is happening to the Scene? Is this the time for the smaller groups to gain recognition, or are they going to sit back and watch the Scene die? The scenes life, lies in the hands of these smaller, lesser known teams. ___With the lack of new and fresh talent being generated, the remaining groups in the Scene have got a point to prove. THEY can survive the test of time! THEY can be loyal to the Amiga! THEY can get to the top! Don't get me wrong, there are many young and talented people around, but they are doing nothing to contribute. ___If you want to keep the Scene alive, CREATE! ___Demos become more and more boring day by day. No offence to anyone, but aren't you all a little pissed off with gouroud-shaded toruses, or stupidly asymmetric 3D objects spinning on your screen. Surely you've all proved that the Amiga is capable of this effect. Move on. Don't wait for the PC to do something different, then imitate. INNOVATE! ___Design. What ever happened to that? I have to disagree with the majority here, but TBL's productions lack a polished, solid feel to them. Great coding, nice graphics, good music, but design was somewhat lacking in my eyes. Just take a look at some of the older demos. Design was the order of the day. Well now, most of you don't give a toss. Smaller groups, this is your chance to get recognition; DESIGN your production! ___However, back to the subject of the Scene becoming smaller. Although this means less competition, it does make the Scene a better place. No longer do you have to live for the Scene, you can now hold a life outside it, as well as one in it. Surely being smaller, gives groups a little extra time to get productions looking a whole lot better, as there is very little being released to surpass ones production. But, I'm not saying that the Scene now is better than it was back in the so-called 'hay-day', but it could be as good, if only we try. ___Being smaller gives that extra bit of time. USE IT! Spinning, gouroud-shaded, phong-twisted, texture-mapped, z-buffered, space-cut, please move on. Use these effects, by all means, but in a different way, to make your demo interesting. ___Respect to those who are trying in the Scene of today. X by Wilsh/GHD (c) Insomnia'97
