2. Negative Experiences with IBM Harddisks (by Stellan Pistoor)
»To make it short, in my opinion IBM can be put on an equal footing with
"Microsofties", if it is not even worse.
Items out of my experience not favourable for an IBM harddisk:
- IBM seems not to know a warranty (at least if it concerns OEM harddisks).
- The harddisk hotline (Germany) is no good for nothing. On the IBM homepage
you will find much more informations (, which are not up-to-date any more). Who feels fooled?
- Harddisks (OEM) need to be returned via the authorized distributor.
Hehe... Please tell me what to do, if the distributor has gone broke?
Just have a look, how many computer-shops close every day. Directly Via
distributors does not work neither.
- Apparently they break down quite often. A life for a backup.
- With all other harddisk manufacturers the final customer is intitled
to direct warranty
Right now I cannot think of further points, but certainly there are some
more.
Altogether I phoned several hours with IBM, IBM distributors, suppliers and
several hotlines, just to get a new one with 4.3 GB for DM 90, which is
out of production since long. Just funny, where IBM had by magic gotten
this disk from (we don't have any, the hotline had said...).
P.S.: I offer two IBM harddisk IDE 4.3 GB (one is new and unused) and one
Seagate IDE 1.2 GB for sale. Mail to blakkhar@nwn.de
