Interface V3.1 - Olly Koenders 27-08-97


This is a small proggy that's capable of opening and running an almost
infinite number of CLI/Shell windows from the click of a gadget, and
contains fully re-entrant code that takes no processor time (no busy wait
loops), doesn't require use of the "System/CLI" program, the usual plethora
of extraneous and sometimes ridiculous libraries and devices that normally
accompany these newfangled "Commodities" (shit I HATE that word!), and is
obviously written in assembler (1548 bytes).

To run it for the first time just call it from the CLI and it'll fully
detatch itself, or double-click on its icon.  Probably the best place to
chuck it is in the WBStartup drawer (2.04+).

If run for the first time, it will open a small control window in the
centre of a 640 x 256 Workbench screen.  This window is a BACKDROP window
and will always be behind all other windows (except other backdrop ones).
The gadgets are a graphic and will be remapped depending on whether you're
running 1.2 -> 1.3 or 2.04+.

The control window can be moved around the screen by clicking the left
mouse button on the window and HOLDING it, then "dragging" the mouse across
the screen to a new position.  When the left mouse button is released the
control window will reopen there and the X and Y locations saved to
"S:Interface.XY" so that when rebooted, the control window will be right
where you left it.  The reason I implemented moving in such a way is fairly
complicated to explain but suffice to say that it works for all kickstarts.

If you try to move the control window off the screen then it will be
reopened again at the default coordinates.

Clicking on the "INTERFACE" gadget in the control window will open a
CLI/Shell window depending on the Kickstart version.  This is like any
normal CLI/Shell and can be closed by typing "EndCLI", or if running 2.04+,
clicking the close gadget or pressing "CTRL+\".

Interface will attempt to open a CLI/Shell window for Kickstart 1.2 -> 1.3
using "NEWCON:".  If the device isn't mounted then a standard "CON:" window
will be used and therefore the cursor keys won't be available.  To mount
the NEWCON: device you really should consult your manual or a friend as I
don't feel the immediate urge to explain it here :)

Repeated clicking on the "INTERFACE" gadget will repeatedly open new
CLI/Shell windows ready for use.  They can be moved and sized like normal
CLI windows and can be closed in any order.  All of these are separate tasks
and are completely independent of each other. 

The "close" gadget on the left of the control window will close this window
and reopen it exactly 60 seconds later - useful if you want to change screen
modes of the Workbench.  Note that Interface cannot be quit, which would be
pointless anyway as it uses so little memory and no processor time.

Interface V3.1 is freeware and can be spread wherever you like - just don't
charge for copying and keep this doc file with its distribution.  The
assembler source is available on request:
