It should be noted, however, that your tagline will not be added to the listing immediately, but will hopefully be added the next time this system's auto- maintenance runs. If the tagline does not already exist in the specified list, then it will be added, else it will be discarded. @endnode @node ADOPTLISTS "Adopt New Tagline Lists" Command: Adopt New Tagline Lists Use ADOPT to add taglists that have INDEX files made for them already into your TagLines file. This is helpful if you find other SysOps using taglists which you may NOT have on your system. By obtaining BOTH the data and index files, this command allows you to quickly add the listing to your setup, without having to go through the steps involved in scanning. @endnode @node CHOSENLISTS "Working With Chosen Lists of Taglines" Command: Chosen Lists SuperTags allows the user to select taglines from specific lists. Each of these lists contain taglines which generally have something in common with each other. For instance, they might each have to do with SysOps or Men or Computers or Star Trek, etc. Some of these lists may be of interest to you, while others may not. It is for this reason that this option exists. Your "chosen" list is the list of tagline libraries that YOU, SPECIFICALLY happen to like. After creating this list, you can use one of the "Chosen List" methods discussed under METHODS to tell the program to ONLY choose a tagline from one of these specified lists. Refer to the @{"GENERAL" link GENERAL} item for information concerning selecting multiple lists to add to your Chosen List. Refer to the @{"DELETE" link DELETELISTS} item for information concerning deleting list(s) from your chosen listing. @endnode @node CHOSENTAGS "Chosen Tags" Command: Chosen Tags Something you'll notice almost immediately is that there are MANY, MANY taglines to choose from. This may be TOO MANY for your liking. Even though there may be a list you specifically like, that list may contain many tags which you do not like. It is for this reason that this option is included. You can specify up to 20 taglines to place in your own, private, tagline library. These taglines can come from any of the included tag lists, or you can specify to create them yourself. You'll have to then choose one of the "Chosen Tags" methods discussed under METHODS to tell the program to ONLY choose a tagline from this SPECIFIC listing. Refer to the @{"GENERAL" link GENERAL} item for information concerning selecting multiple taglines to add to your Chosen List. Refer to the @{"DELETE" link DELETELISTS} item for information concerning deleting tag(s) from your chosen listing. @endnode @node DELETECHOSEN "Delete from Chosen Lists" Chosen: Delete from Chosen Lists Pressing `D' will allow you to delete an item from one of your Chosen Lists. You'll be asked if you wish to delete a Chosen List or a Chosen Tag. See the @{"GENERAL" link GENERAL} item for more information concerning selecting multiple lists/tags to delete. @endnode @node GENERAL "General Information" Command: General Information In addition to the visible commands, there are numerous other commands and command aliases you can use, while inside SuperTags Config: At most prompts that ask you to select an item, you can use CNet Ranges to select multiple items. For instance, typing: 1-5,8-11,23 would allow you to specify items 1 thru 5, 8 thru 11 and 23. Using these CNet Ranges allows you to make rapid selections quickly and easily. For more help using CNet Ranges, exit SuperTags Config, then type @{"HELP RANGES" link RANGES} from any CNet Command Prompt. In case you didn't already know this, you're SysOp should have made the TAGS command available from any prompt on the system. This TAGS command will load this config program and allow you to edit your tagline settings anytime you think you need to. (I mention this in case you were placed in the Config program, because it was your first time using the SuperTags. Now you'll know how to get BACK into it when you need to!) If you have any problems using this program, or you are unsure on what a particular function does, please do not hesitate to ask your SysOp. If it's not something they feel comfortable answering, they'll then be able to get in contact with the author, who SHOULD be able to find an answer. @endnode @node LISTLISTS "List Chosen Lists" Command: List Chosen Lists Whenever you choose more lists for your Chosen Listing than can be displayed on one line of the Config screen, you'll be able to press `L' to view all your Chosen Lists. @endnode @node LISTTAGS "List Chosen Tags" Command: List Chosen Tags If you have more than one tagline in your Chosen Tags listing(as you no doubt will), you'll be able to use the `T' command to view these chosen tags. @endnode @node SCANDIR "Scan Directory for New Tagline Lists" Command: Scan Directory for New Tagline Lists There are two forms of SCANNING available. You can choose to either scan for lists that do NOT have accompanying index files, or else you can opt to scan ALL the listings again(in case you wish to update index files). During the scanning process, numerous things will occur: - The data file will be alphabetized. - It will then be passed through a duplicate checking routine. - After this, the index file will be calculated and created. - The index file, and updated data file, will both be saved to disk. If multiple files are found in the directory, this operation could take some time, however you needn't stay and wait for it, as it will do all the grunt work for you. Upon completion of the scanning process, you'll be asked if you wish to automatically go to the Global Editing screen where you'll be able to change specific settings for numerous listings of taglines quickly and easily. @endnode @node SIGNATURES "CNet Signatures & Taglines" Command: CNet Signatures & Taglines CNet Amiga BBS's have the ability to allow you to create "Signature" files. These are short text files where you can include information such as your Real Name, Handle, BBS Information, etc. Whatever you'd like to tell other people about yourself. You usually use the `EP' command to edit these signature files. This option allows you to tell the program how you wish to use these signature files, in conjunction with the taglines. There are presently five different ways you can set this option: Place No Signatures with Taglines. - Using this setting will SUPPRESS, or skip, the printing of the signature file from text messages created by you. Place CNet's Default Signatures BEFORE Taglines. - This setting will tell the program to append your signature file to the text message, THEN append the tagline text. Place CNet's Default Signatures AFTER Taglines. - This setting will tell the program to append the tagline to the text message, THEN append your signature file. Place CNet's `Handle/Real Name' Default BEFORE taglines. - This setting will simply insert your handle(or real name) to the text message, THEN append the tagline. What exact info is appended to the message will depend on how your SysOp has the base you posted/replied in set up. [This option is NOT used when writing personal mail or feedback to the SysOp]. Place CNet's `Handle/Real Name' Default AFTER taglines. - This setting will append the tagline to the text message, then simply insert your handle(or real name) after the tagline. The exact info printed will depend on how your SysOp has the base you posted/replied in set up. [This option is NOT used when writing personal mail or feedback to the SysOp]. @endnode @node AMAINT "Run SuperTags MutoMaintenance Module" Command: Run SuperTags AutoMaintenance Module This command simply allows you to launch the AMAINT module, without having to wait for your CNet AutoMaintenance event to do it. This comes in handy when you(the SysOp) manually adds taglines to various listings. @endnode @node CENTERING "Centering Types" Command: Centering Types There are numerous ways you may wish your tagline centered(and justified) on the screen. Presently, there are seven different settings for this option: - Use Random Border, With Tagline Randomly Justified. This option will randomly select one of the following six options. - Full Sized Border, With Tagline Left Justified. SuperTags 2.53 Chosen ---------------------------------------------------. | This is an example tagline! | `------------------------------------------------------------------------' - Full Sized Border, With Tagline Right Justified. SuperTags 2.53 Chosen ---------------------------------------------------. | This is an example tagline! | `------------------------------------------------------------------------' - Full Sized Border, With Tagline Center Justified. SuperTags 2.53 Chosen ---------------------------------------------------. | This is an example tagline! | `------------------------------------------------------------------------' - Custom Sized Border, Left Justified On Screen. SuperTags 2.53 Chosen --------. | This is an example tagline! | `-----------------------------' - Custom Sized Border, Right Justified On Screen. SuperTags 2.53 Chosen --------. | This is an example tagline! | `-----------------------------' - Custom Sized Border, Center Justified On Screen. SuperTags 2.53 Chosen --------. | This is an example tagline! | `-----------------------------' In the examples shown above, the 3-Line Format is being depicted, however you also have the option of creating a 1 or 2-Line format as well. See the @{"FORMATS" link FORMATS} item for more information. @endnode @node COLORS "Change Colors" Command: Change Colors Pressing `C' will allow you to select which colors will be used when creating the tagline and border. These colors will only be visible in areas of the bbs that allow them to be used. You can select foreground and background colors for the `SuperTags 2.53 xxx' text, the border and the tagline text. @endnode @node CONFIG "Edit SuperTags Config Values" Command: Edit SuperTags Config Values The CONFIG EDITOR allows you to change the following settings, located in the "SuperTags.cfg" file: - Should QuickTags be Used? - If QuickTags Are Mandatory, Which List Should Be Used? - Path to SuperTags Command Files. - Path to SuperTags TagList Files. - Tagline method to give to FIRST-Time users of SuperTags. - Default Menu Choices for Menu's 1 thru 5 on the CONFIG Screen. - Default settings to use on the GLOBAL EDITING screen during uses of the "Scanning Directory" operation. - All known AreaFix Passwords. - Ability to translate MORPH Codes when displaying long listings. - Ability to "temporarily" disable SuperTags for ALL users. - Lowest Group to consider a "Fellow SysOp", for use with the GRAB command to include INDEX(.ndx) files in archives. - Ability to suppress printing of "disabled" text messages. - select Only the Quotable Tags(those taglines less than 70 characters in length) - Use QuickTags Module, instead of SuperTags Module. - Ability to specify taglist to use when in QuickTags mode. - SuperTags Title Text Default Setting. (0=No Text, 1=Both Texts, 2=Just Title, 3=Just Name, 4=Ask the User) @endnode @node DELETELISTS "Delete Tagline Listings" Command: Delete Tagline Listings In the event you ever decide you no longer wish to offer one or more listings of taglines, you can choose to DELETE them. You use CNet Ranges to select the listings you wish to delete. You'll then be asked if you also wish to delete the physical files from your disk drive. Stating NO to this question will simply delete the list's entry from your TagLines file, while SAVING the files on your disk drive(in case you wish to add them in again sometime in the future). @endnode @node EDITLISTS "Edit Tagline List" Command: Edit Tagline List You may wish to EDIT a listings settings, which is what this option is used for. You can choose to edit any of the following: - List's Filename. - List's Descriptive (Long) Name. - Minimum Access Group. - Which Genders May Use. - minimum AGE May Use. - May MCI's Be Used? You also have the ability to QUIT without editing anything. @endnode @node USER "Check USER Config Validity" Command: User Pressing "U" will allow a SysOp to check the validity of a users SuperTags Config File(even their own). They'll be shown all available info pertaining to that user's current SuperTags settings. A check will then be performed for nine distinct errors which may appear in the user's config. The SysOp can then use the L, T, and/or E commands to respectively view the user's Chosen Lists, Chosen Tags, or Config Errors, if available. The following nine Config Errors are currently checked for: Random Chosen Lists Selected, but NO Chosen Lists on File! Random Chosen Tags Selected, but NO Chosen Tags on File! List Name Chosen, but Foreground & Background Colors are SAME! Border Chosen, but Foreground & Background Colors are SAME! The Tagline's Foreground and Background Colors are IDENTICAL! Signatures Chosen, but their Default Signature File Not Found! Signatures Chosen, but their Fido Handle Signature File Not Found! Signatures Chosen, but their Fido Real Name Signature File Not Found! User has ALL Message Text Types Disabled, but SuperTags Enabled! @endnode @node EDITTAGS "Edit Chosen Tags" Command: Edit Chosen Tags Pressing the `E' key will allow you to EDIT any of the taglines in your Chosen Tag listing. It is possible to add MCI-Color codes to Chosen Tags, even if they came from lists that forbid their use, because these taglines now make up a custom list which is only available to you. @endnode @node FORMATS "Tagline Line Formats" Command: Tagline Line Formats The `Line Format' option allows you to choose the text layout mode you wish to use for your taglines. There are presently four options: - Use Random Line Format. This option will randomly select one of the following 3 options. - Formatted for ONE Line. STags2.53: This is an example tagline! - Formatted for TWO Lines. This is an example tagline! ----- SuperTags 2.53 ------ - Formatted for THREE Lines. SuperTags 2.53 Chosen --------. | This is an example tagline! | `-----------------------------' How long the lower line in the 2-Line format can be, as well as the size of the border in the 3-Line format will depend on your centering setting. Refer to the @{"CENTERING" link CENTERING} item for more information. @endnode @node GLOBALEDIT "Global Tagline List Editor" Command: Global Tagline List Editor Sometimes, you may find the need to edit one or more settings for MANY listings of taglines. Using the GLOBAL EDIT feature, you can make changes to all listing settings, with the exceptions being filenames and long names. It is this screen where you'll also be able to toggle which TYPES of bases can use the taglists. You'll also be asked if you wish to go immediately to this screen upon completion of a "Scanning Directory" operation. See @{"SCANDIR" link SCANDIR} for more information on this. You may use CNet Ranges when specifying which lists you wish changed. @endnode @node GRABTAGS "Grab(Download) Taglines" Command: Grab(Download) Taglines Pressing `G' will allow you to GRAB(or Download) one or more taglists. You'll be asked if you wish SuperTags to use ZIP or LHA to create the archive. You'll then be asked which protocol you wish to use and then must, then and there, download the archive. If the system is set to recognize you as a CNet SysOp, you'll also be given the INDEX(.ndx) file(s), in addition to the taglists, so that you can then ADOPT them into your copies of SuperTags. @endnode @node INFO "Information on Tagline Lists" Command: Information on Tagline Lists Pressing `I' will allow you to view Information about selected list(s). This information includes how many tags the list contains, who can use the tags, and whether or not MCI Color Commands are allowed in this list. You'll also be shown some example tags from that listing. See the @{"GENERAL" link GENERAL} item for more information concerning selecting multiple lists to view information on. @endnode @node FLAGS "Enable/Disable Text Type Flags" Command: Flags Pressing `F' will allow you to adjust your TagLine flags pertaining to the TYPES of messages you create. Presently, there are five flags you can enable and/or disable: Enable/Disable Tagging of Net-Mails - These are textual messages you create on the this bulletin board, but whose contents will be sent to some other location. This could be through a network like FIDO-Net or CLink or to one of the larger commercial services, like Compu-Serve or America On-Line. Enable/Disable Tagging of E-Mails - These are textual messages you create specifically for one user on this bulletin board. This user will be the only one able to read your message, unless (s)he chooses to forward your message to someone else. Enable/Disable Tagging of Feedbacks - These are textual messages you create specifically addressed to the SysOp of this bulletin board. Only the SysOp will be able to read these messages. Enable/Disable Tagging of Posts - These are textual messages you create in the Public Message Areas(or Forums) located on this bbs. A post is a message meant to START a new topic of discussion, and may be read by all users who have access to this area on the bbs. Enable/Disable Tagging of Responses - These are textual messages you create in REPLY to topics in the Public Message Areas(or Forums) located on this bbs. You generally use responses to ADD TO the ongoing discussion of a given topic. Again, all users who have access to this area of the bbs may read your responses. @endnode @node MAKEBORDER "Custom Border Creation" Command: Custom Border Creation Pressing `B' will take you to the Custom Border screen. On this screen, you can define the eight characters used to make the border: A B C \\ | / .-- SuperTags 2.53 Chosen ----. D - | This is an example tagline! | - E `-----------------------------' / | \\ F G H A> upper left corner B> upper horizontal C> upper right corner D> left vertical E> right vertical F> lower left corner G> lower horizontal H> lower right corner Starting in v2.53 of SuperTags, you now have the ability to use the 8-bit IBM Graphic Characters in the creation of your custom border. You'll initially be placed in TEXT mode, whereas whatever you type on the keyboard will be used as the characters to make your border with. You can use the ESCAPE key to switch between the different modes. When in an IBM mode, the characters you type will produce the shown equivalent IBM character graphics. You can then use either the "Custom" or "Random" method under the @{"METHODS" link METHODS} item to use your newly customized border. In the 2-Line format, the `F' item(lower horizontal) is used to create the lower border character. No frame is used in the 1-Line format. See @{"FORMATS" link FORMATS} for more information. @endnode @node REBUILDLISTS "Rebuild Tagline Listings" Command: Rebuild Tagline Listings In the event you ever manually add and/or change the contents of one or more of the tagline data files, or if you suspect the validity of one of the index files, REBUILDING may be to your advantage. This process is similar to scanning, except that you specify lists which already exist in your TagLines file. The same steps will be executed as are discussed under Scanning Directory, upon which the index file will have been recreated for you. See the @{"SCANDIR" link SCANDIR} item for more information. You can use CNet Ranges while selecting lists to rebuild. @endnode @node ARGUMENTS "Using TAGSM Command With Arguments" Command: Using TAGSM Command With Arguments You can also use the following ARGUMENTS right after the TAGSM command from the CNet prompt to activate other utilities: - Specify an ID Number to view that ID's _SuperTags Config file. This is helpful in locating problems a user might be having, while trying to use SuperTags. Example: Main> tagsm 1 (Check ID # 1's config) Main> tagsm 32 (Check ID # 32's config) NOTE: This utility is ONLY available by use of the argument! - Specify an "M" to run the automaintenance file: Example: Main> tagsm m (Execute AMAINT module) - Specify an "A" to initiate an ADOPT operation on orphaned taglists: Example: Main> tagsm a (Adopt NEW Indexed Taglists) - Specify an "S" to initiate a "Scan Directory" operation, where ONLY files without INDEX files will be scanned: Example: Main> tagsm s (Scan for NEW Taglists) - Specify an "R" to initiate a "Scan Directory" operation on ALL files located in the TagData/ directory(Rebuild Operation): Example: Main> tagsm r (Rebuild Indexes for ALL Lists) - Specify a "?" to see a brief HELP Menu of available arguments: Example: Main> tagsm ? (List all available arguments) @endnode @node BORDERS "Border Types" Command: Border Types This program allows you to place a border around the actual tagline that will be appended to your text messages. This option allows you to specify which border you wish to use: - Pick Random Border This option will randomly select one of the 13 border types listed below(including NO border). - Use No Border This option simply displays the "SuperTags" text and the tagline text, with NO border. - Shadowed IBM SuperTags 2.53 Chosen This is an example tagline! Here's what the default custom border looks like: SuperTags 2.53 Chosen --------\\ | This is an example tagline! | \\-----------------------------/ @endnode @node INTRO "Introduction to Taglines & SuperTags" Command: Introduction to Taglines & SuperTags SuperTags is a program to hopefully make using taglines a bit easier, as well as more fun! A "tagline" is usually one line of text that follows the message text you create in the editor. This message text could be anything from a personal mail message, feedback, public postings or responses. This config program allows you to specify how you wish taglines to be used by you. Under most circumstances, a tagline IS appended to your text messages SOMEHOW, but this program lets you specify EXACTLY how you want them used. The other sections of this Help System will explain what the different things you see on the config screen mean, and how they are used. If, after you've read through the appropriate help areas, you are still confused, please don't hesitate to ask your SysOp for further assistance... @endnode @node METHODS "Tagline Use Method" Command: Tagline Use Method This refers to how you wish this program to do it's job. There are presently ten ways this program can proceed: Disable SuperTags; Do NOT Append a Tag. - Using this method, you can effectivly DISABLE the use of taglines from ALL of your messages. This is sometimes helpful if you use an off-line reader to do the majority of your posting and responding. Your user signature will still be appended to the messages, however. Pick A Random List, then a Random Tag. - Using this method, you'll never be bothered by the program when a tagline is needed. It will simply select a tagline at random from one of the lists you have access to. Ask Me About Lists & Tags Each Time. - Using this method, you'll be asked to choose a list of tags each time you save a text message. You can then choose a tag from within that list, create one of your own, or switch to a different list, until you've found one you like. Pick a Random CHOSEN List, then a Random Tag. - Using this method, you can tell the program to select a random tagline from one of the lists you specified earlier. Refer to item number 4 for information concerning @{"Chosen Lists" link CHOSENLISTS}. Ask Me For CHOSEN List, then a Tag. - Using this method, you'll be asked to choose a list of tags from your CHOSEN listing. You can then choose a tag from within that list, create one of your own, or switch to a different list, until you've found one you like. Pick a Random CHOSEN Tag. - Using this method, you can tell the program to select a random tagline from a group of taglines you specified earlier. Refer to item number 5 for information concerning @{"Chosen Tags" link CHOSENTAGS}. Ask Me For A CHOSEN Tag. - Using this method, you'll be shown your listing of CHOSEN tags, where you can select to use one of those, create your own, or quit without adding a tag. Pick a Random CHOSEN List OR a Random CHOSEN Tag. - This method simply allows you to COMBINE the affects of the above two methods, where there will be a possibility that one of your CHOSEN tags is picked OR if a Random tag will be selected from one of your CHOSEN Lists. Load the SuperTags Config Each Time. - Using this method will allow you to use the SuperTags Config to change options after every time you save a text message. This is helpful, while first using this program, until you find the settings that work best for you. Use QuickTags from Selected Listing. - This mode allows you to specify "QuickTags" execution. When in QuickTags mode, you do NOT have the ability to customize any of the numerous different options pertaining to taglines in general. you are allowed to specify one tagline listing, from which tags will be sequentially chosen from. Tags in "QuickTags" mode are formatted for 1-Line, without using color of any kind. TOGGLE SUBS allows you to specify which subbases you wish to disable the use of any of these in. Use the Arrow Keys to select the base you wish to Toggle, then press your ENTER key. This setting will display the "SuperTags 2.53" (or "STags2.53" if in 1-Line format) text, along with the name of the listing the tagline was taken from. Note that in the 1-Line format, only ONE piece of info can be displayed, so if "Show BOTH" is chosen, only the Title text will be displayed. - Display ONLY the STags Title Text String. Only the "SuperTags 2.53" (or "STags2.53" if in 1-Line format) text string will be displayed when creating the tagline. The name of the list the tagline was taken from will NOT appear in the final output. - Display ONLY the List Name Text String. Only the NAME of the list the tagline was taken from will be displayed when creating the tagline. The title text will NOT appear in the final output.
