It was a hit. Many people loved the game, and the flexibility of it. The variety of classes and races made it very versatile. And because it had so much to it, I never dreamt it could be made into a program and still do the system proper justice. I was very wrong. I started work on this program in April, 1997. The going was very slow at first, because I tried to do too much too soon. I then started doing little bits at a time, until working versions started coming out. And not just any versions, but apparently very stable versions. Someday I hope to complete this program, and have it be as close to a replica of my real-life system as possible. 0.2 - Credits I would like to thank many people for giving their support to me. First of all, I'd like to thank Steel Dragon most of all. He helped me play test the game for countless hours. There are many others that played a whole hell of a lot, but I have long since forgotten a majority of them. Special Thanks to Michael Rudolph for a new error routine, and for finding a number of errors. 0.3 - Legal Crap This game is 100% original. The names are taken from many fictitious books, and bare no resemblance to their depictions of said names. All of the algorithms used are completely of my own devising, and are also unique. The statistics for monsters and items are unique and bare no resemblance to any others of my knowledge. Any simularities is purely coinicidence. Chapter 1, Starting Out 1.1 - Creating a New Character If you are in the main game Guild, then select the S)elect Character command. It will load up the character generator. Once inside, select R)egister a new character. It will ask you which race you want your character to be. (Refer to 2.1 - Races for more information) Next you will be asked what alignment you want your character to be. (Refer to 2.2 - Alignments for more information) Then it will roll your stats (refer to 2.4 for more information) and list all the possible classes you may be. Select one. (Refer to 2.3 - Classes for more information) Then select a name for your character. After this, it will ask if everything is okay. If you are satisified, select Y)es. If you want to roll again, select N)o and repeat the above directions until you are satisfied with a character. 1.2 - Selecting a Character To select a character you wish to use, enter the character generator (S)elect Character command in the Guild), and select the S)elect Character command. It will list all the characters you currently have. Enter the corresponding number, and you now have that character selected to use. To play, use the Q)uit back to "Dragon's Lord" command. 1.3 - Deleting a Character To delete a character, select the D)elete Character command from the Character Generator. This will display a list of characters you have already created. Simply select the number of the character you want to delete, and hit Y)es. That character is now deleted. **Warning** Once you delete a character, there is no getting it back. It is forever gone. Be sure this is what you want to do before you delete it. Chapter 2, Character Classes and Races 2.1 - Races There are five races in Dragon's Lord. Below is a list of each, and a brief synopsis of their abilities. Human: The most common race. The human is average in everything except Wisdom, where it lacks. Elf: A tall slender race. The Elf makes a great magic user, as it generally has very high Intelligence. Elves are also decent fighters, as they have high Dexterity. Dwarf: Dwarves are short creatures. They tend to have high Strength and high Constitution. These make the best fighters. Gnome: Gnomes are cave dwelling creatures. Gnomes tend to have high Wisdom, and usually make the best Clerics. Hobbit: Hobbits are short dexterious creatures. Hobbits are the best thieves because they tend to have the highest Dexterity and Luck. By no means does the race limit you to what class you can be. These are just normalities for each race. Sometimes a strange race can offer new advantages to an otherwise "dull" class. 2.2, Alignments There are three alignments in Dragon's Lord. Good: These characters would go out of their way to help an old lady cross a street. Neutral: These characters would help an old lady across the street if they were going the same way. Evil: These characters would help an old lady cross a street only if there was some major gain to them, such as a reward. Alignments don't always restrict your character, but they do have a role in which class they may become. (See 2.3, Classes for more information) 2.3, Classes There are numerous classes available to you in Dragon's Lord. Many of which are only available to you through a class change.
