*** Welcome to the CNet Amiga Professional BBS *** Demo release 2 - CNet Amiga version 4.28d What you are about to install is a BBS package that has been in continued development for the last 2+ years. This product has not seen a public commercial release during those years but has weathered the storms of general Amiga doom. Whether you want your BBS to enter the Internet connectivity age, or just want to set up a local dial-up BBS, CNet is your best choice! This demo version contains no serial support whatsoever and, therefore, cannot receive callers. After installation, the sysop can login and customize the BBS to his hearts content. Also contained within this demo is the software developer's kit for CNet Amiga Professional. Even if you do not wish to purchase CNet, and are a coder, you may still create 3rd party doors for CNet Amiga. However, to receive callers, the sysop must order the non-demo product from ZenMetal Software as discussed under the title, "Purchasing CNet Amiga." Setup ------ Demo Setup is easy. Click on the install icon. If the install script fails or does not work -------------------------------------------- Do not fret. Temporary assigns are all that is needed to get things up and running. Since you've already decompressed this archive to some hard disk which, for example sake, we'll call "WORK:" Enter the following assigns: assign CNET: WORK:CNET assign SYSDATA: CNET:SYSDATA assign SYSTEXT: CNET:SYSTEXT Copy the folllowing files: copy SYS/LIBS/#? LIBS: copy SYS/L/#? L: Configuring/Running the software -------------------------------- Run the AmigaDOS shell executable CNET:CONFIG to configure the system. You should not have to do this to see the BBS operation and it's configurability but you may want to explore. In fact, we recommend it!! Run the AmigaDOS Shell executables CNET:VDE and CNET:VDE2 to create the system Visual Data Editor (VDE) files for use with the Edit Account (EA), Edit Subboard/List (EL) and other sysop maintenance commands. Run the program CNET:CONTROL to run the CNet control panel. Double-click on a port to run it. Double-click again to open the port for sysop login/screen-monitoring. Press TAB to auto-login as the sysop. If you cannot auto-login, press the SPACEBAR and enter "NEW" at the handle prompt. Fill out the new user application and then, after the new-user process is complete and you are logged in, press Right-Amiga-T to open the user stats window. Position your mouse pointer over the ACcess area which should say "AC 0 Unvalida" and click the left mouse button. You can now enter an access value of 31 and press ENTER (31 is, by default, SYSOP access. Now you have full sysop powers and access to all commands and parts of the BBS. Older CNet sysops and curiosity seekers --------------------------------------- For a complete list of changes, email rakey@netrover.com. Also, feel free to look at the !changes.guide or !changes.readme files which contain a rather impressive and indepth list of CNet Amiga changes since we began our development of CNet/4. It may be technical for a new sysop but the newer features are laid out extensively; particularly, the best Internet support and clients seen on any Amiga BBS. Updates ------- Registered owners of CNet Amiga BBS can get updates via 3 methods: 1) calling on of our support BBS systems. 2) a private, non-anonymous Internet FTP account. 3) periodic visits to our Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channel, where Ray, the developer and coder, joins daily for Q&A sessions and DCC (direct client chat) transfer of updates to registered sysops.
