Short: Updates and uploads .procmailrc killfile Author: kenny@bgnett.no (Kenneth "Kenny" Nilsen) Uploader: kenny@bgnett.no (Kenneth "Kenny" Nilsen) Version: 1.0 Type: comm/thor Requires: Thor 2.3+, optional NComm Comment: Kill those spam emails forever! mailto:kenny@bgnett.no $VER: AddProcmail 1.0 (25.6.97) Copyright (C) 1997 by Digital Surface/Kenneth "Kenny" Nilsen. If your ISP mailserver uses Procmail to deliver emails to you, and the account you have is at the same server, you can use a file in your account called '.procmailrc'. This is a filter file that can sort, forward etc. all emails you get. You don't even have to be online to activate it - it's all automatically at ISP level. This script will automagically create a .procmailrc header file if you don't already have one. When you get an e-mail or news message that you don't want to receive in e-mail you just start the script. It will then add the domain as an entry in the .procmailrc and send it to /dev/null on yout ISP next time you updates the .procmailrc file (ala NIL:) before you download new email. This way you will never know it was even there in the future. USAGE: ------ 1) Install the script 'AddProcmail.thor' in Thor:Rexx/ 2) Edit the header in the arexx script: ProcPath = "MyPath/" Change this path to where you want the '.procmailrc' file to be. You must end it with a trailing '/' or ':'. You don't need to add the .procmailrc filename (it's done by the script) BBSEntry = "MyBBS" If you want to use Ncomm and script to upload the new entry from Thor, type the NComm phonebook entry name here where you start the NComm script. Upload = 1 If this is set to 1 the script will ask if you want to upload the new entry. If false (0) the script will skip the upload part entirely. 3) Install the script to an F key in Thor for convinient usage (just hit the F key when you get a mail you don't want). That's it. You may change the bahaviour of Procmail. I think /dev/null is best (default) to avoid mailloops, wasting bandwith and such. USAGE WITH NCOMM: ----------------- I have provided an example NComm script that can be used with this arexx script. You must change the path to the .procmailrc file in the script. Add a new phonebook entry in Thor, call it "MyBBS" (or what you want of course :) and use the same "MyBBS" name in the arexx script for BBSEntry. When you select "Upload" from the requester in Thor (if upload=1) the script will start NComm and then dial the phonebook entry with name "MyBBS". You must provide a script in the NComm phonebook of course and a password. Feel free to modify the NComm script to suit your ISP. EXTRAS ------ I have provided a .procmailrc file with several hundreds domains that will be stopped before you get them in your email. The entries are collected by Petter Nilsen except a few. Converted to .procmailrc file by myself. NOTES: ------ - You will need telnet or shell login access to use Procmail. - You will also need your account to be on the same place where the mailserver is (AFAIK). - I am not a Unix expert nor a Procmail expert. Please refer to the man files of Procmail(rc) and/or your Internet provider with quiestions about how and if you can get Procmail to work with your system. COMMENTS -------- Feel free to comment this package or send suggestions and modifications. I had no time to create a decent doc nor a perfect script. I made this basically for my own needs, but I wanted to share it with you Amigoids. mailto:kenny@bgnett.no Regards, --- Kenny mailto:kenny@bgnett.no ''"\./"`` http://www.bgnett.no/~kenny/ - Developer/Digital Surface | (opinions by me are my own!) --- A conservative is a man who believes that nothing should be done for the first time. -- Alfred E.
