Keymap for Genius keyboards - A short instruction
 created and documented by Marc Oberst


 The Problem

 Lately I upgrade my Amiga.  Now I have an ELBox tower and a PS2 PC-keyboard
conntected  with  an  adapter  for the standard DIN interface of A2000/A4000
keyboards.   Unfortunately I could not use the keyboard as planned because a
lot  of  charachters  and signs where placed on the wrong keys.  I could not
use  it with the original Amiga keymap, but also not with the keymap printed
on the keyboard itself.
 So  I  downloaded several Win95 keymaps for Amiga Computers from the Aminet
but  none  of these keymaps available worked with my PC-Keyboard from Genius
Factories properly.


 What I have done?

 So  I created my own keymap for the use with especially this keyboard.  You
could  say it is a fixed Win95 keymap for Genius keyboards (german version).
Nothing  else has been changed than the way the keys are arranged.  Means no
special  characters  have  been  added or deleted, so it is made for the use
with every standard font like topaz for example.
 In  other  words:   Use it as a standard keymap, especially when you own an
Genius keyboard.

 But  notice first:  I had to decide if I rebuild the "old" Amiga keymap for
Genius  keyboards  or  if  I  change  the  keymap thereby it fits to what is
printed  on  the keys themself.  I thought - although I use the Amiga keymap
for  more  than  10 years now - to create a keymap that prints on the screen
what is to be seen on the keys of the keyboard.
 This  means  for example, that you have to press "ALT Gr" + "Q" to make the
"@"  appearing  on  the  screen,  not  "Left  ALT" + "2" as used.  It is the
WYSIWYG concept I followed. ;)


 Details

 Forget  about  the  standard adapted fix where F11 means "\" and "|".  Both
signs  are  now  to  be found where they are printed on the keys.  Also some
other signs had to be changed to fit to the keyboard.

 Old  -  but  due  PC-Keys  senseless  to change anyway - are Delete=Delete,
End=Help,  Shift  down=Caps  lock, STRG=CTRL and so on.  Check it out if you
own  a Genius keyboard and maybe modify it by yourself if you don't like it
this way or want to create some special (hot)keys.

 This  is  now a keymap for the use with a standard PC-keyboardadaptor and a
german Genius keyboard.  Doesn't matter if it is a PS2 or a DIN plugin.  (At
least I think so...)

 Of  course  you can also try to use this keymap with keyboards manufactured
by other firms.  But there might appear the same problems I had by using the
standard Win95 keymaps for Amiga with a connected Genius keyboard.


 Problems left...

 This  keymap  is optimized for the Genius keyboard I bought in autumn 2001.
It  has  no  manufacture  number  (as  it  is  a very cheap, but though good
keyboard)  and  it  might  be that older or newer keyboards from Genius need
other keymaps though.  Just tell me and I will see what I can do.

 The  other  problem  with  this  Genius  keyboard is, that I am not able to
de/activated NumLock, so some problems allow the user to set numbers, others
don't. Maybe I will solve this within some days using the new keyboard?!
