14th July 1996 Internet-set version 3.1 (the easy to use and setup Internet suite.) Kevin Anderson andersok@mail.bogo.co.uk The files in this archive are mainly for logging into Bogomip which is an extremely good Service Provider for the London area only. (i.e. only London P.O.P.s) but can be used for any service provider if need be. To sign up with Bogomip call 0800 137 536 and their helpful staff will tell you all about it. Their very cheap and I always get a line and have never lost a conection due to their end. Plus you get 1 meg free Web space. The point of this set is to provide an easy entry for new Net surfers and people like me who want to get on with the minmum of fuss and no need for programming knowledge. equirements:- OS 3.0 or above (can use lower but won't see GIF's in web pages) 2mb ram minimum (4mb highly recomemded) Hard drive (about 3mb free) 020 CPU or above (have not tested it on lower machine but may work) MUI 3.3 (for Voyager web browser) Gif and Jpeg datatypes (included in this archive) ISP account (With dynamic IP address NOT DEMON all new ones have this) (Bogomip has this) Internet Set Installation READ ALL OF THIS DOCUMENT BEFORE PROCEEDING (print if can) >>>>> especially point b) and c) *** ED bit <<<<< Also read all docs with individual App's ISP = your Internet service provider (ie Bogomip) Remember you need MUI version 3.3 to use Voyager. ***** NOTE ***** The instructions below are for an A1200 and 28.8 modem and for Bogomip (bogo.co.uk) but you can use with any other provider. (if your modem is 14.4 or you use an A500 - A2000 then change baud rates to 19200 in AmniTCP and scripts below, if your modem is lower then cry and stick with BBS's "your sad") Installation:- a) Drag the drawer called "AmiTCP-4.0" to your Work: partition. It must be on your work: partition or the Net_Assigns won't work. If you have not got a work: partition you will have to edit the "MakeAssigns" file substituting the name of your partition where you see the word "work:". Once The AmiTCP-4.0 drawer is in place double click the "Install" icon's you want to prepare and install the necessary bits:- Install = This sets up Net-Set Install-daemon = This installs ToolsDaemon (recommended) IF YOU ALREADY USE TOOLS DAEMON don't use the Install-daemon icon. Just nick the Internet bits by cut and paste. (found in "prefs") b) When all done and happy reboot to make changes. You can delete the Net-set-files drawer when done and working ok. c) Edit netdial.rexx script adding your own details as given by Bogomip or what ever ISP you where you see the prompts. Click the "Show_Edit" icon for a graphical view. If you need to use a different buad rate (i.e. 14.4 modem) you will need to edit netdial.connect, netdial.rexx and hangup.rexx substituting yours for the existing ones. Click Show_Speed icon for a graphical view. I found problems with lower ones (28.8 modem) and the A1200 serial port can't work safely above 57600. (Its up to you have been warned)(These files are found in AmiTCP-4.0/bin) If you are using another provider check to see if it asks for your password once or twice. (Bogomip asks twice) If twice ok, if once you must edit the line in netdial.rexx near the end that says:- if(online ==8) then leave << If once change the 8 to 6, If twice leave as is. >> ** When using ED to edit the scripts remember to check that executable and script flags are selected in the ICON information screen as ED turns them of when editing.(this is done by clicking once on the Icon for say netdial.rexx and while the Icon is activated choosing Information from the tool bar. When done choose save. d) Now turn on your modem and choose Log On from the Internet section of the tool bar (i.e. hold the left mouse button down and release when on your choice). If all ok you will see a window open on the left side of the screen telling what it's doing and all that. When the process is done and you have clicked OK in the AmiTCP window that pops after reading the conditions some more stuff will come up in the window and then the window will close this means you are connected. If the window does not close or another window opens with error messages then you have not filled in your details properly. e) Now select Log Off and check that it logs off and your modem hangs up you could just turn the modem off then on but AmiTCP is still connected and you will need to reboot. f) You can test your connection by choosing Ping Test from the tool bar. A window will open and repeat the same line 10 times and when finished you should see 0% packet loss at the end. If not your connection is bad i.e. bad line etc. g) NEWS & WWW are in Voyager and will work as is. Voyager is also set up for many Aminet sites in different countries but a small FTP client is also supplied in the AmiTCP-4.0/tools drawer, but would be better of getting somthing like AmFTP from Aminet via Voyager. If you are with Bogomip E-mail only needs you to start E-Mail and choose config from the tool bar then put your user ID (username the bit before the @ in your e-mail address) where asked you don't need your password as you enter it when prompted while downloading/uploading mail. Please read the excelent Guide supplied with this program in the AmiTCP:E-Mail/docs drawer and do as it says and shows. (its easy) To start any of the Net programs just choose from the tool bar. ( i.e. hold down the right mouse button and select say E-Mail and while E-Mail is highlighted release the button) If you choose not to install ToolsDaemon (the tool bar thingy) then you will have to open the corresponding drawer in AmiTCP-4.0 and click the icons respectively. (I'd advise installing ToolsDaemon as it saves opening loads of windows (which saves chip memory) and makes decoding News files etc easy)). ONCE YOU ARE HAPPY YOU CAN DELETE THE DRAWER YOU EXTRACTED THE FILES TOO. Extra useful programs:- Included with this suite are two datatypes (GIF & JPEG) plus a small file viewer called "fastview". All are found in the AmiTCP-4.0/tools drawer and Fastview can be activated from the tool bar under Utilities. If you open the drawer the gif, jpg, iff etc file is in and click once on the icon to make it active (i.e. the icon chages colour or depress's) then choose fastview from the tool bar the file will be shown for you. (This applies to all app's in ToolsDaemon i.e. text files can be viewed/edited by just activating the icon of the file (as above) and selecting say Ed from the tool bar). Also on the tool bar are three more handy bits:- "Decode" A UUdecoder for decoding the pictures/binaries from News groups and E-Mail etc. Just use as Fastview (i.e. click on the file and choose Decode from the tool bar. The decoded file will be found in the AmiTCP/Downloads drawer. Also in this drawer is the decode executable do not delete or you won't be able to decode any more. "Ping Test" This will test your connection to Bogomip. READ THE FOLLOWING:- I would advise reading all the Doc's for each app found in their drawers in the AmiTCP-4.0 drawer to learn more about them. Read the conditions etc and thank your lucky stars that people like them are out there keeping the AMIGA alive and making yours and my life easy. These are shareware/freeware etc programs which I had no involvement in and the authors should be rewarded as such (NOT ME) for their hard work and late nights. Please register where applicable so as to keep them from starving and keep the standard as high. GOOD BYE...... Help me Help me" Read the "net-set.help" file in the AmiTCP-4.0:doc drawer for various help, tips and quick start guides. "This really is good bye".
