-Some small bugs removed.

-The Wildcard function features now a 'Fast-Wildcard' list. You
 can add your most used wildcards, and using them will be then
 simply a click in the list.

-New dos-token. It allows Smarty to ask the user some kind of
 data (e.g. strings or numbers). This can be usefull for a
 JPEG encoder, for example.

(See the @{"Version history" LINK "HISTORY" } for a little list).

Note:
As you can see, there are not a lot of new features in v2.1.
This is because I've received very few registrations for this program,
so it is not in the top of my TODO list.

@{b}What is Smarty ?@{ub}

Smarty can be classified as a file-manager, but it is not a
"classical" file-manager program. It works in a different manner,
and lacks some of the features you expect to find in a
classical file-manager.

On the other hand, Smarty has some features that a classical
file-manager lacks. These functions are mainly oriented to manipulate
files that belong to an animation (i.e., an animation splitted in its
images).

You can, of course, use Smarty to do the tasks you would do with
a classic file-manager program, but maybe not so comfortably.

Some of the features of a file-manager program that Smarty v1.x hadn't,
has been added to v2. Anyway, again, it's not a classic file-manager.

@{b}Features@{ub}

Well. A little list of features:

-Smarty includes several file-selection functions:

        Wildcard selection.
        Range selection.
        Numerical range selection.
        Stretch selection.
        "Jump" selection.
        ...

-You can "hide" files, so they will be not considered by Smarty's
        selection functions.

-You can rename a sequence of files in different ways:

        Sequencially (foo.001.jpg, foo.002.jpg....)
        Adding extensions (Amiga, Mac... -> Amiga.iff, Mac.iff...)
        "Traditional" renaming is also possible

-You can duplicate files.

        Smarty allows you to create any number of duplicates of any
        number of files.

-Smarty v2 includes the possibility of deleting/copying/renaming
        drawers, also.

-You can use the DOS window to process files with any AmigaDOS
        command (for example, convert a large number of images using
        the IFFTODCTV command).

-Smarty uses MUI (to me, a feature).

-It is completely localized (english is built-in, and spanish catalog
        is supplied).

-...

Just a couple of things:

-Smarty's windows don't have (normally) a 'Cancel' button. For example,
 if you want to cancel the 'Traditional Rename' just close the window.

-While Smarty is doing something, for example deleting files, it opens a
 'Completed' window. To cancel the process just close this window. You can
 pause it by clicking the 'Pause' button, and continue later by clicking
 'Pause' again.

-You can open, for example, the rename window and Smarty won't be blocked.
 Smarty only gets busy while is doing something.

@TOC "FILEOPERATIONS"

@{b}Select Page@{ub}

Smarty allows the users (you :) to select files in several ways. In this
page you will find all Smarty's file-selection functions:

    Select: This is a cycle gadget that toggles between 'Select' and
            'Unselect'. If affects (nearly) all the selection functions.
            If set to 'Select', selection-functions will select files,
            and if set to 'Unselect', well... obvious... :-)

    All: Will select/deselect all the entries in the list.

    Toggle: Will toggle the state (selected<->unselected) of all the
            entries.

    Select: This one allows you to (what I call) "jump-select" the files.
            It requires 3 values: Select X every Y and Offset Z.
            For example: (0=unselected file ,1=selected file)

            Select 2 every 4 offset 0 => 110011001100110011001...
            Select 1 every 3 offset 0 => 100100100100100100100...
            Select 1 every 3 offset 1 => 01001001001001001001...

            Note the offset in the last example... Clear ?

    Stretch:This function will select exactly the number of files you
            want from the list. For example, if you want to select 7
            files from 20 (all the entries), Smarty would select :
            (0=unselected file ,1=selected file)

            10010010001001001001

            The first and last entries will ALLWAYS be selected, so the
            'Final' value in Stretch's window must be at least 2.

    Adjacent:Only usefull when you're working on an animation exported
            by fields, i.e, when a complete frame is represented by
            two files, one file per field.
            Adjacent will take selected entries and will (de)select the
            other field of each one (Clear ???).

    @{"Wildcard" LINK "WILD"}:Allows you to select the files which matches an AmigaDOS
            pattern. Take a look to your AmigaDOS manual for information
            about wildcards.

    Range: In 'select' mode, range will select all the files between
            the first two selected entries. In 'Deselect' mode, will
            unselect all the entries between the two first non-selected
            entries.

    Num.Range:This one will ask you for two values. It will select all
            the files contained in the range of these two values.

@TOC "SELECTPAGE"

The wildcard function has been expanded in v2.1.

It now includes the possibility of adding wildcards to a list. You

You can retrieve a wildcard by simply clicking it in the list.

The list is DragSortable.

              the list.

    Unselected: Well... All the currently nonselected files will be

Smarty also checks if selected entries will fit into destination. If not,
it will ask you if you want to cancel.

The Copy function requires a copy-buffer. This buffer is allocated only
while the copy-process takes place, and is freed when finished.
The copy-buffer-size is set up in the tooltypes of the program

Smarty will ask you the destination. It could be the current DestDir, you

Smarty also checks if selected entries will fit into destination. If not,
it will ask you if you want to cancel.

The program checks also if you are trying to move in the same device. If
this is the case, it will only rename the entries, so the move will be
very very fast. If not, it will copy-delete every file.

The Move function requires a copy-buffer. This buffer is allocated only
while the move-process takes place, and is freed when finished.

@NODE "CLONENODE" "Clone"
@TOC "FUNCPAGE"

This function allows you to clone all selected files.

Smarty will ask you how many clones of every file you want (up to 9999).
The clones will have the name of the clone file with a numeric extension
at the end.

Currently, is not possible to cancel/pause the cloning-process for every
clone. For example, if you create 100 clones of every file, you will not
be able to stop the process while a file is being cloned. You will have
to wait for the duplication to be finished.

Important:

'Clone' uses the copy-buffer defined in the tooltypes. Smarty will check
if the file that it's going to clone fits completely in the buffer.
If this is case, the file is only read ONCE, and writed as many times as
necessary.
If not, Smarty will have to read and write the file several times to
make a single clone.
If you clone 100 files of 200Kb each with a buffer of 250Kb, the operation
will be MUCH FASTER than if the buffer was 100Kb.
@ENDNODE

@NODE "VIEWNODE" "View"
@TOC "FUNCPAGE"

This function will use the command that you set in the VIEWTOOL tooltype
and use it as some kind of "viewer". The string '#file' will be replaced
by the full filename of every selected entry.

For example:

    VIEWTOOL=sys:utilities/Multiview SCREEN #file

When you press 'View', Smarty will replace #file by the first selected file
name, and the command will be executed (the first file will be deselected).
Note that Smarty does not quote the filename.

Smarty will ask you for confirmation before viewing every file.

I know that this operator can be replaced by the DOS operator, but this
one is faster, easier and more comfortable.
@ENDNODE

@NODE "AREXXNODE" "ARexx"
@TOC "FUNCPAGE"

Well... This function is not implemented, yet. It really depends on the
support I have (=> registrations) of Smarty.
It will be (very probably) added to a future release of Smarty if it
ever appears.

The idea (basic) is to be able to execute an arexx macro for every
selected entry, and to give Smarty some arexx commands (apart from
typical MUI arexx commands).

Sorry.
@ENDNODE

@NODE "DOSNODE" "DOS"
@TOC "FUNCPAGE"

DOS allows you to execute an AmigaDOS command for every entry. It is
a bit complex operator, but not much as you'll see, and quite
flexible.

When you press the 'DOS', the DOSCommand window is opened. It contains
the list of available DOSCommands, and some buttons:

    New: Creates an empty entry at the bottom of the DOSCommand list.
         You can then Edit it, and you'll have a new DOSCommand.

    @{"Edit" LINK "DOSCOMMEDIT"}:This is the "heart" of the 'DOS' function.
         It allows you to edit an existing DOSCommand (maybe an empty one
         created by 'New').

    Remove: Deletes the selected DOSCommand.

    Info: Displays some information (See Edit) about the DOSCommand.

    Sort: Sorts the DOSCommands by their name.

    Save: Saves all the DOSCommands to the file 'ENV:Smarty.doscomms'.
          The next time that you run Smarty, your DOSComms will be
          loaded from this file.

    Do it: Well... Executes the DOSCommand. It creates an script in
           'T:', and the executes it. It runs a separated task, so
           Smarty will be free for you while the DOSComm is
           executed (I really LOVE AmigaOS...)

Note 1: The DOSCommand list is a DragSortable list. You can sort the
        entries using MUI 3.x's drag'n'drop facilities.
Note 2: Smarty requires the program SSNSmarty, which is copied by the
        installation script in your C: dir. Don't care about it; Smarty
        will use it when necessary.

@ENDNODE

@NODE "DOSCOMMEDIT" "Edit"

A new window will be opened, in which you'll have to fill
some strings.

    Command Name: Use a descriptive name for what this DOSCommand
             will do, for example 'Convert JPEG'.
    Description: Here you can write a little description of what the
             current DOSCommand does. Is the information that appears
             when you click on 'Info'.
    Command: Here you can enter the real DOSCommand. You can add
             some tokens that will be replaced by it's meaning
             by Smarty when the DOSCommand is executed.
             Smarty v2.0 supports the following tokens:

                  #sap[] - Current path
                  #sad[] - Current DestDir
                  #srf[X]- Pop up a filerequester. X is the title.
                  #srd[X]- Same, but a dirrequester.
                  #ssd[] - Currently selected directory.
                  #srv[X]- Asks for a value
                  #saf[] - First selected file
                  #san[] - First selected file with path.
                  #scs[] - All selected entries.

             If you double-click a token in the list, it will be
             inserted in the current DOSCommand.
    Stack: The stack that Smarty will assign to the DOSComm when
             executed.
    Priority: The priority of the DOSCommand when it's executing.
             Take care and think twice before modifying the priority,
             as you can lock the WB or Smarty if it's too high.

I know is a bit crazy. An example:

You want to convert a series of files (24Bit IFF's) to the DCTV
format using the program IFFTODCTV. The DOSCommand should be:

C:IFFTODCTV "#san[]" -o#sad[]

Smarty will replace first the #sad token by the current DestDir.

C:IFFTODCTV "#san[]" -oDH1:Converted

Then it will take the selected entries to replace the #san[] token:

C:IFFTODCTV "dh1:Image.001" -oDH1:Converted
C:IFFTODCTV "dh1:Image.002" -oDH1:Converted
C:IFFTODCTV "dh1:Image.003" -oDH1:Converted
C:IFFTODCTV "dh1:Image.004" -oDH1:Converted
...

Another example: Compress selected files using LZX:

DOSCommand: C:LZX a #srf[File name:] #scs[]

First Smarty will replace #srf[File name:] by the file that you
choose in the filerequester, and the will replace the #scs[]
token.

Clear ???

Notes:

-When an entry is used, it is deselected.

-All selected entries (#scs[]) means the number of files defined
 in the MAXFILES tooltypes (defaults to 7).

Notes:

-'Start number' defaults to 1 (no need to fill the field).

-'Step' defaults to 1 (idem), can be a negative value, and
 cannot be (of course) 0.
 If you set a negative value, a 'Reverse Renaming' (like in

DDs is simply a list of directories. You can add new
dirs to the list, remove them, sort them and save them (so
they will be available when you start Smarty again).

When you click on 'DestDirs' a new window is opened. It
contains the current list of DDs and some buttons:

          be added to the list.
          You can drop WB icons on DDs list and its path will be
          added to DD list, too.

    -Current: Current dir will be added to the list.

    -Remove: Current DD (selected in the list) will be removed.

    -Read: The selected DD will become the current dir (same result
          if you double-click a DD in the list).

    -Sort: DDs will be sorted alphabetically.
           Note that the DD list is a 'DragSortable' list, so you
           can sort the DDs using MUI's Drag'n'Drop facilities.

    -Save: Will save the DD list to 'ENV:Smarty.destdirs'.

The 'Copy', 'Move' and 'Copy dir' functions uses the DD. Current DD
is the default destination for these operations, and if you want
you can select another destination, that will be added as a DD
by Smarty.

DDs cannot be repeated. Smarty takes care of this.

        Buffers smaller than 100Kb (default) are not recommended,
        as the copy-process become very slow. The minimum is 10Kb.

        Copy-buffer is specially important if you clone files
        very often. See @{"Clone" LINK "CLONENODE"}.

        Defines the command that Smarty will use for the 'View'
        function. You have to type '#file' where you want
        Smarty to put the filename.

        For example: Sys:Utilties/Multiview Screen #file
                     c:cyberview #file center

    MAXFILES=<number>

        This value (defaults to 10) represents the maximum number
        of files that Smarty will replace for the token '#scs[]'.
        See @{"DOSCommands" LINK "DOSNODE"}.
        Please remember that using a lot of files could relay in
        a 'Command too long' error.

    INIDIR=<string>

        This tooltype contains the startup dir. Smarty will read
        it when you run the program.
        Defaults to 'SYS:'.

    CLOSEWINDOWS

        When present, Smarty will close the window opened by
        a function (e.g., Rename), if it succeeds (i.e., there are
        no errors).

    OPENDDS

        If this Tooltype is present, Smarty will open the DD window
        when executed.

    OPENDIRS

        If this tooltype is present, Smarty will open the Directories
        window when executed.

    OPENDCS

        If this tooltype is present, Smarty will open the DOSCommand
        window when executed.

@NODE "REGIS" "Registering Smarty v2"
@TOC "MAIN"

@{b}Registering@{ub}

 This software is subject to the "Standard Amiga FD-Software Copyright Note".
 It is Shareware as defined in paragraph 4s.
 For more information please read "AFD-COPYRIGHT" (Version 1 or higher).

Smarty is Shareware. You can try the demo-version for a period
of time, after which you'll have to register.

When you register Smarty, I'll send you a personal registration
code that will enable all the disabled features in the demo-version.
If you are not registered:

    -You cannot save neither DDs nor DOSComms.

    -You can only access the dir you define in the INIDIR
     tooltype.

    -All the requesters have an annoying delay.

    -The About window is opened when you start the program (and when you
     quit it), remembering you that you have to register if you
     use Smarty.

By registering, you don't have these limitations and you ensure the
future development of Smarty.

Registering fee is $15 US (1800 pts), or equivalent.

You can send me the money the way you want. I prefer postal order, cause
it's secure and cheap, but it's slow :-(.
Anyway, make sure that I have no cost in getting the money.

I will send you your personal registration code (PRC from now on) via
e-mail or via standard-mail (send me enough stamps if so).
This PRC will be valid for ALL future versions. If it change from one
version to another, I'll send you (via e-mail) your new PRC.

You can freely copy Smarty's distribution (see Distribution), but
remember that your PRC is personal, and you are not allowed to
copy nor distribute it.
You would be killing Smarty by doing so !

@{b}Things to add to future Smarty releases:@{ub}

(*=Very probable)

   *-Remove bugs (as always).

   *-Implement the Arexx function/Smarty rexx commands.

   *-Add a Move dir function.

   *-Add a Clone dir function.

    -Allow multiselection of directories.

    -Add a 'Replace ?' requester when you try to copy over
     an existing file. Now simply gives an error.

   *-Implement more MUI 3.x's Drag'n'Drop facilities. For example,
     dragging a DD over the filelist will make Smarty read it.

    -Maybe in a future version, the filelist will show dirs and files
     at the same time (again, maybe).

As usual, waiting for suggestions...

I've received VERY FEW registrations for Smarty.
I don't know the reason. I think that the register fee is very
reasonable, and I find that Smarty is really usefull (at least
to me :-).
If you don't like this program for any reason, or is not usefull

0. INTRODUCTION
===============

If you are a user I hope you like this Standard Copyright Note for Free Dis-
tributable Amiga® Software you only have to read once instead of individual
notes. There are translated versions of this document available on Aminet®
named:
/pub/aminet/docs/misc/AFD-Files1-xx.lha (xx = number of languages).

If you are a software developer and want to include this document in your
own FD package then please read it carefully first, especially chapter 5
"DEVELOPERS INFORMATION". Thank you for your support.

1. COPYRIGHT
============

a. This software is copyrighted by its developer(s). That means that you
   are NOT ALLOWED to modify the program(s) and documentation in any way.
   Especially you MUST NOT REMOVE the documentation or this text file.

b. You are NOT allowed to use this software or any part of it for any other
   purpose than that one mentioned in its documentation, this also includes
   any fonts, images or samples. If the developer(s) did NOT include the
   source code of the program(s) in this package you are NOT allowed to de-
   compile any part of it.

2. DISTRIBUTION
===============

This package is freely distributable. That means you are allowed to re-
distribute this package as long as you follow these points:

a. Any re-distribution has to include all files in this archive, including
   this "AFD-COPYRIGHT" file, without any modifications. You are NOT allowed
   to add any files to the archive.

b. This package may be freely distributed via BBSs, InterNet/UseNet,
   software libraries such as Fred Fish's and Aminet® CD-ROM, and other
   similar electronic channels.

c. Disk magazines and services that charge extra for file transfers may
   NOT distribute it without written permission by the developer(s)!

3. DISCLAIMER
=============

By using this product, you accept the FULL responsibility for any damage
or loss that might occur through its use or the inability to use it. The
developer(s) of the software and the author and the translators of this
"Copyright Note" can NOT be held responsible.

IMPORTANT: The author and the translators of this "Copyright Note" do
           NOT give any guarantee for the quality and usefulness of
           ANY products that are subject to this note!!!

Some names used in this text are trademarks or registered trademarks.
The use of these names does not imply that they are free.

4. RETURN SERVICE
=================

"Free distributable" only says that you do not have to pay for copying or re-
distributing the software. You are allowed to test this product for 30 days.
If you like it and decide to use the product regularly, most of the develo-
pers want something in return for their efforts.

The documentation of this software contains one classification out of these:

a. Freeware - You are allowed to use this software FREE.

b. Mailware - You have to send the developer(s) a MESSAGE
              (by email or snailmail).

c. Cardware - You have to send the developer(s) a POSTCARD.

d. Donationware - You have to make a DONATION to an organization as stated
                  in the documentation to this product.

g. Giftware - You are requested to send the developer(s) a GIFT,
              for example:
                             - some candy or
                             - a package of disks or
                             - a copy of a self-made program or
                             - some money or
                             - an Amiga 5000 PowerTower ;-)

s. Shareware - You have to send the developer(s) the amount of MONEY
               demanded in the documentation.

5. DEVELOPERS INFORMATION
=========================

The concept of a "Standard-Licence" like this one has several advantages:

- You as a developer don't have to think about copyright stuff yourself.
- The users of your product have to read it only if they haven't done so
  before.
- This document is available in several languages via Aminet®.
  So you can be sure that the users have read it at least once and did
  understand it.

If you want to include "AFD-COPYRIGHT"(TM) in your own Amiga® FD-Software
package you have to follow these rules:

a. Read this whole document carefully and make sure that you agree with the
   whole text WITHOUT ANY EXCEPTIONS.

   (If you do not agree with it, do not use it! You are allowed to copy parts
   of it, but IF you do so, you MUST NOT use the names "AFD-COPYRIGHT"(TM)
   and "Standard Amiga FD-Software Copyright Note"(TM).)

b. Make sure that you use the following Default-Tools in the .info-files you
   are going to release:

   - for ASCII texts:           More
   - for AmigaGuide® documents: AmigaGuide
   - for AmigaOS scripts:       IconX
   - for ARexx scripts:         RX
   - for configuration files:   Ed
   - for Installer scripts:     Installer
   - for IFF-ILBM pictures:     Display

   (The idea of this rule was inspired by Osma "Tau" Ahvenlampi, Finland.
   It was included to set a standard. If someone does not use these tools
   (s)he has to make not more than one link per file type!)

c. Include a paragraph like the following in the manual to your product:

 ------8<-------------------------------------------------------------------
 This software is subject to the "Standard Amiga FD-Software Copyright Note".
 It is <type_of_software> as defined in paragraph 4<x>. [...]
 For more information please read "AFD-COPYRIGHT" (Version 1 or higher).
 ------8<-------------------------------------------------------------------

   Example:

 This software is subject to the "Standard Amiga FD-Software Copyright Note".
 It is SHAREWARE as defined in paragraph 4s.
 If you like it and use it regularly please send $15 to ...
 For more information please read "AFD-COPYRIGHT" (Version 1 or higher).

d. You have to include this file called "AFD-COPYRIGHT"(TM) (English).
   IF you include an AmigaGuide® hypertext documentation you can link it to
   this file or include the whole text in the AmigaGuide® file just as you
   like. Please do not add more than two translations of this file to your
   package. So your package doesn't get too big.
