These are al the outline fonts I've designed since 1992. I started to design these fonts, due to lack of good English-Greek fonts at this time, for the Amiga. Either the fonts were not compatible with DTP programs like PageStream or they were too expensive to buy. My friend Argiris Maistralis had this crazy idea about designing our OWN fonts for our use. He first designed the GreekNormal font (which unfortunately) is NOT included in this archive, using the infamous FontDesigner. I took a different way instead; I designed the fonts in canvas instead. After buying TypeSmith in 1994, I started the slow and painful task of transferring the fonts rom the canvas into TypeSmith. That job took almost a year (well the mouse is not perfect for such jobs) and after spending hundrends of hours (mostly after midnight :-) ), I finally completed the task in last April. Since then, the fonts travelled all over Greece, via the available BBSs. After upgrading to TypeSmith 2.5b, I re-compiled the fonts again, now with full hinting, so that they look, feel and print pretty. That's the story of the fonts you have at your hands. Note that I didn't designed them for commercial purposes, so don't expect top quality; however they are pretty complete in types, shapes and styles or the average Amiga user. The fonts have multilingual English-Greek character sets and they are compatible with both Usa1 and GR_ELOT_928 keymaps (they are compatible with Greek Workbench). This means that you are able to write in both Greek and English using a single font. Follows the licensing agreement. License Agreement ----------------- These fonts are supplied to the public as COPYRIGHTED FREEWARE. This means that you are free to copy them, give them to your friends and use them as you like, PROVIDED that 1) you don't change the names, 2) you don't change the copyright notes inside them (each font has a secret ID number, too), 3) you don't sell them for profit, other than the cost of the disk(s). As I said above, I didn't design the fonts to be used in commercial basis; however, I would appreciate if you send me something as a gift for my efforts: candy, cookies, reistered copies of your programs, CD's (Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, Oasis,...), or even a postcard from your country. If you can't afford any of the above (you little Scrooge!), send me an e-mail with your opinion about the fonts and how you use them. Following those simple rules, you'll 1) have a clear conscience and 2) make me feel that this effort was worthwhile. Thanks ------ Many thanks to the following people or a wide range of reasons: - Argiris D Maistralis: for helping me understand how TypeSmith works & support. - Menelaos P Mikedis: or his ideas about fonts & support. - Andreas P Apessos: for testing the fonts on his HP DeskJet 550C and for letting me perform hundrends of printouts on his printer. - Manos Konstantiniadis: for showing interest in distributing the fonts in the Greek BBS's netowrks and for his kindness to create a special file area in his BBS or that purpose. - George Hionidis: for distributing the fonts via his BBS also. - Pantelis Andreadis: for his kind words about the whole effort to supply the Greek Amiga users with my fonts. - To everyone else I forgot! Thank you for trying out my fonts. Signed 4/5/96 - 22:48 - Manolis S Pappas (mpap@acrogate.ath.forthnet.gr)
