@database XTR ED v1.1 @$VER: 1.0 (17/06/96) @node MAIN @title "XTR ED V1.1 ©1996 Mark Green." Important Information concerning Extreme Racing. ------------------------------------------------- The Editor loads the file FrontEnd which can be found on disk 1 or in the drawer you installed it to on hard drive. The file has been crunched with Crunchmania and needs to be decrunched before the editor can load it. The following programs will decrunch it. DLD and XFD-Decrunch by Georg Hörmann. If you don't have a hard drive you will need to recrunch the file afterwards. Any Executable packer will be Okay. I recommend one of the following: Powerpacker by Nico FranÇois (Commercial) Crunchmania v1.91 by Thomas Shwarz Imploder v4.0 by Peter Struijk and Albert J. Brouwer Stonecracker v4.10.3 by Jouni Korhonen @{" Main Menu " link MIAN} @endnode @node MIAN " Main Menu " XTR ED V1.1 (07/06/96) --------------------------- By Mark Green --------------------- @{" Introduction " link INTRO} @{" Standard Disclaimer " link DISCLAIMER} @{" Requirements " link REQUIRE} @{" Archive Contents " link CONTENT} @{" What is it? If you have a different config and the program doesn't work please let me know. @endnode @node REQUIRE "Do I need a Super Amiga?" XTRED needs: ----------------- This Editor requires the following: An Amiga (A bit obvious Really) Kickstart v3.00 (Should work on V2.04+ but XTR needs an A1200) 1MB of Chip Memory (Should work on all A1200's) The ReqTools.Library V38+ in LIBS: The Diskfont.Library in LIBS: Extreme Racing I didn't see the point in checking to see if it works on any pre-AGA machine as Extreme Racing requires AGA (A1200/A4000/CD32). @endnode @node CONTENT "Contents of the Archive" Archive Contents: ----------------- The data held in this archive is shareware, you may freely distribute it as-long as the following files are in the archive AND are not altered: XTR_ED v1.1 ; The main program. What does it do? ---------------- This program allows you to alter the amount of prize-money you are awarded during the Season Race. (Future versions will allow for more fearures) @endnode @node NEW "Whats new then?" New Features. ------------- V1.1 has the ability to change a players name. This will only be evident on the hiscore screen (During a league). This is because the editor uses graphics on the player select screens. @endnode @node USAGE "So.....How do I use it then?" How do I use it? ---------------- Erm. Simple really, you shouldn't need to read this! When loaded you will be prompted with a Path Requester use this to select the Disk/Drawer where Extreme racing is located. (Won't be disk 1 as the file MUST be decrunched first). Once the file FrontEnd has been loaded you will be presented with a window. When loaded you will be presented with 12 gadgets, and 1 listview they do the following: Position 1-8 : Alter prize money : Brings up Reqtools Requester Do-It : Will put the new values into the game and save it. Prize : will bring up a requester with the Original values Quit : Quit out of the Editor The listview holds the players names. When you select a player a string requester pops up and you will then enter the players new name. @endnode @node SWARE "What's Shareware then Bob?" The Shareware Concept: ---------------------- Shareware is a concept where you may try a program before registering (Paying). This program is shareware but unlike other shareware programs it isn't limited in any way. All I ask is if you use it regularly and get some enjoyment out of it you to send me something (Anything from a postcard to cash, I don't really mind). The more people who send me a donation will give me an inclination of the size of the Amiga community, I will then decide whether it's worth writing more programs. To register @{" Press " link CONTACT} for my address @endnode @node MAGS "What do we do then?" Magazines. ---------- The editor may be included on any magazine coverdisk. All I ask is that the whole archive is included. @endnode @node BUGS "Arhhhhh no not them....!" Known Bugs ----------- None that I know of. If you find any send me a detailed description of the bug and you machine configs to me at@{" My Address " link CONTACT} @endnode @node HISTORY "What has been changed and added.." XTR Ed Version History -------------------------- (12-05-96) : V1.0 Released First release Editing of prize Money only ----------------------------------------------------------------- (07-06-96) : V1.1 Released Added player name changing ability. Tidied the code up slightly @endnode @node FUTURE "What's on the horizon now?" The Future. ----------- I am currently working on a couple of new projects they should be finished shortly, they are: SwosEditor v2.0 - New version featuring a newer better interface that uses Listviews and Cycle gadgets. It will also have all the things I couldn't fit or be bothered to include in the current versions. (Might not finish this program as existing editor does the job well enough). DetroitED - Savegame editor for the excellent Detroit. XTREd V1.2 - I will do this if I get some feedback on possible additions/improvements. It depends entirely on you. @endnode @node CREDS "Who do we blame for this program?" Credits. -------- The idea, conception, and programming is courtesy of: Mark Green. The game Extreme Racing was programmed by Siltunna Software, published by Black Magic and distributed in the UK by Guildhall Leisure. Thanks must go to the following people: Siltunna Software for this brilliant game. Sensible Software for the Amazing SWOS ; Probably the best computer game ever bar none. The following people for the amazing leagues we have played in SWOS: Daniel Green Mick and Gary Roberts John R. Lamb (even though he is totally crap) Simon Tooth Lee Wilkins. And to all the Amiga owners who have helped keep the machine alive. If it wasn't for people like you the Amiga would be dead. Stick with the Amiga and if a Software House stops supporting the Amiga then write to them. If they still say NO then it's their loss. If you have this program yet you don't possess Extreme Racing then buy it NOW. You don't know what you're missing. @endnode @node CONTACT "You wanna contact me then?" Okee Dokee. I hope you use and enjoy this program as much as I enjoyed programming it. Contact me concerning any of the following: Bugs Improvements or possible additions Information on new programs or anything else. Here is my current E-Mail address. A word of warning I don't go on-line very often so it would probably be better to contact me via slow-mail - @{fg highlight}mark_andrews@metnet.demon.co.uk@{fg text} or write to: Mark Green 13B Gerard St, Derby, DE1 1PA. Finally If you create any decent or funny save-game-files then send them to me. @endnode @node TECH "Some intiguing info" Technical Information --------------------- This editor was programmed on an Amiga A1200 with an Apollo A1220 ram accelerator (I should have a Blizzard 1260 with 8 megs ram by July 1996) and a Quantum Maverick 540meg hard drive held all that precious data. Blitz Basic 2 was used to program the Editor. There seems to be a problem with the WTITLE command in Blitz. It doesn't seem to want to work on any Kickstart v2.04 machines. If anybody has any idea why I would be eternally grateful if you let me know. Deluxe Paint 4 AGA was used to create the Graphics There is a way to change the settings of the cars. It is also possible to set up your own cup. It is a very simple procedure and revolves around 2 files in the Misc/ drawer the files are Cartypes and Season. The Cartypes file allows you to alter the car settings and, the Season file allows alteration of cups/seasons skill level for both computer and human players. The files have been crunched with Crunchmania but the file header has been changed. To change it back load in a binary file editor (Zap/NewZap) and change the first 4 letters (XPKZ) to CrM2 and then decrunch it. The file is in plain ASCII and can be edited with any ASCII Editor. I am not going to explain how to change things around but simple trial and error will pay off. If loaded from Hard Drive the files won't need recrunching but if loaded from disk the files will need crunching with Crunchmania and the headers changing back to XPKZ CAUTION - DON'T ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING AS YOU CAN EASILY DAMAGE AND EVEN DESTROY THE FILES WHICH WOULD MEAN THE GAME IS UNUSABLE. @endnode
