   @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} is a program to help students practise and master
French @{"verbs" Link "Verbs"} in the most common @{"tenses" Link "Tenses"} of the language.  It is designed
to @{i}support@{ui} classroom work, not to replace it.

   @{b}*@{ub} In the passé composé, all uses of je, tu, nous and vous are
     considered masculine.

   Generic use of these pronouns will help in avoiding errors when the
subject of the pronoun is unknown.  There are also many examples with
the subjects elle, ils and elles so that the agreement of past
participles may be practised.

display @{b}Selected@{ub} when some of the verbs in a list are chosen.)  The
last gadget allows the student to see all of the selected verbs; any
that are not wanted may be removed by selecting them individually.

   Most ToolTypes may be set directly through the Workbench's
@{b}Icon/Information...@{ub} menu or from inside the program.  Currently,
@{b}PUBSCREEN@{ub} must be set from the Workbench; only in a special case (noted
below) can it be set from @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui}.

@{b}CORRECTSOUND=@{b}<path to IFF sound file>@{ub}@{ub}
     @{b}CORRECTSOUND@{ub} specifies the full path to a sound to use for a
     correct answer.  It may be set inside the program by selecting the
     @{"Settings/Sounds/Correct..." Link "Correct..."} menu item.

@{b}FIXEDSIZE@{ub}
     If @{b}FIXEDSIZE@{ub} is specified, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} will fix the size of the
     @{"answer gadget" Link "Verb_String"}.  By default, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} changes the gadget
     width to give a subtle hint to the answer.  It may be set inside
     the program by selecting the @{"Settings/Fixed String Size?" Link "FixedSize"} menu item.

@{b}FONTNAME=@{b}<font name>.font@{ub}@{ub}
     An alternate font name may be specified with this tooltype.  The
     name must include the @{b}.font@{ub} suffix.  The @{b}FONTSIZE@{ub} tooltype must
     also be specified; otherwise it has no effect.

@{b}FONTSIZE=@{b}<font size>@{ub}@{ub}
     This tooltype allows the selection of a particular font size when
     the @{b}FONTNAME@{ub} is specified.  Otherwise it has no effect.

@{b}INCORRECTSOUND=@{b}<path to IFF sound file>@{ub}@{ub}
     @{b}INCORRECTSOUND@{ub} specifies the full path to a sound to use for an
     incorrect answer.  It may be set inside the program by selecting
     the @{"Settings/Sounds/Incorrect..." Link "Incorrect..."} menu item.

@{b}KEYMAP=@{b}<path to keymap file>@{ub}@{ub}
     This ToolType takes a complete path to an alternate keymap file,
     e.g.  @{b}DEVS:keymaps/cdn@{ub} or @{b}KEYMAPS:usa2@{ub}.  The keymap is @{i}not@{ui} used
     for menu shortcuts.

@{b}LANGUAGE=@{b}<language>@{ub}@{ub}
     @{b}LANGUAGE@{ub} specifies the language to be used for all text in the
     program.  The name of the language should be given in that
     language; for example, French would be given as @{b}français@{ub}.

@{b}NOICONS@{ub}
     If @{b}NOICONS@{ub} is specified, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} will not save icons with
     verb files.  By default, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} saves icons.  May be set
     inside the program by selecting the @{"Settings/Create Icons?" Link "Create_Icons"} menu
     item.

@{b}PUBSCREEN=@{b}<public screen name>@{ub}@{ub}
     @{b}PUBSCREEN@{ub} specifies the public screen on which @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui}
     will attempt to open.  If not specified, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} will
     attempt to open on the default public screen (usually Workbench),
     then on a public screen named @{b}VERBES.1@{ub}.  If specified, @{i}Ensemble
     Verbes@{ui} will attempt to open on the named public screen, creating
     it if necessary; if unable to open there, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} will
     default to @{b}VERBES.1@{ub}.

     If @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} is forced to open on a public screen, the name
     of this screen will be saved whenever @{"Settings/Save Settings" Link "Save_Settings"} is
     chosen.

Command Line Options
********************

   The command line options follow the same format as @{"ToolTypes" Link "ToolTypes"}.

@{b}CORRECTSOUND@{ub}
     @{b}CORRECTSOUND@{ub} specifies the full path to a sound to use for a
     correct answer.  It may be set inside the program by selecting the
     @{"Settings/Sounds/Correct..." Link "Correct..."} menu item.

@{b}FIXEDSIZE@{ub}
     If @{b}FIXEDSIZE@{ub} is specified, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} will fix the size of the
     @{"answer gadget" Link "Verb_String"}.  By default, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} changes the gadget
     width to give a subtle hint to the answer.  It may be set inside
     the program by selecting the @{"Settings/Fixed String Size?" Link "FixedSize"} menu item.

@{b}FONTNAME@{ub}
     An alternate font name may be specified with this parameter.  The
     name must include the @{b}.font@{ub} suffix.  The @{b}FONTSIZE@{ub} parameter must
     also be specified; otherwise it has no effect.

@{b}FONTSIZE@{ub}
     This parameter allows the selection of a particular font size when
     the @{b}FONTNAME@{ub} is specified.  Otherwise it has no effect.

@{b}FROM@{ub}
     The file specified will be used as the initial settings for
     @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui}.

@{b}INCORRECTSOUND@{ub}
     @{b}INCORRECTSOUND@{ub} specifies the full path to a sound to use for a
     correct answer.  It may be set inside the program by selecting the
     @{"Settings/Sounds/Correct..." Link "Correct..."} menu item.

@{b}KEYMAP@{ub}
     This parameter takes a complete path to an alternate keymap file,
     e.g.  @{b}DEVS:keymaps/cdn@{ub} or @{b}KEYMAPS:usa2@{ub}.  The keymap is @{i}not@{ui} used
     for menu shortcuts.

@{b}LANGUAGE@{ub}
     @{b}LANGUAGE@{ub} specifies the language to be used for all text in the
     program.  The name of the language should be given in that
     language; for example, French would be given as @{b}français@{ub}.

@{b}NOICONS@{ub}
     If @{b}NOICONS@{ub} is specified, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} will not save icons with
     verb files.  By default, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} saves icons.  May be set
     inside the program by selecting the @{"Settings/Create Icons?" Link "Create_Icons"} menu
     item.

@{b}PUBSCREEN@{ub}
     @{b}PUBSCREEN@{ub} specifies the public screen on which @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui}
     will attempt to open.  If not specified, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} will
     attempt to open on the default public screen (usually Workbench),
     then on a public screen named @{b}VERBES.1@{ub}.  If specified, @{i}Ensemble
     Verbes@{ui} will attempt to open on the named public screen, creating
     it if necessary; if unable to open there, @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} will
     default to @{b}VERBES.1@{ub}.

     If @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} is forced to open on a public screen, the name
     of this screen will be saved whenever @{"Settings/Save Settings" Link "Save_Settings"} is
     chosen.

Common Problems
***************

@{i}The accented characters don't show up, or appear as boxes.@{ui}
     Your chosen font does not have a definition for the accented
     characters.  Choose another that does.  If you do not want to
     change your system settings, use the @{"FONTNAME" Link "ToolTypes"} and @{"FONTSIZE" Link "ToolTypes"}
     ToolTypes to select a font for @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} to use.

@{i}@{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} doesn't use the font I specified.@{ui}
     Make sure that you have the font name spelled out exactly, in
     exact case, and that you have included the @{b}.font@{ub} suffix.
     Verify that you have specified both @{"FONTNAME" Link "ToolTypes"} and @{"FONTSIZE" Link "ToolTypes"}.

@{i}@{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} doesn't open on the default public screen.@{ui}
     Ensure that you have not specified a @{"PUBSCREEN" Link "ToolTypes"} parameter.
     If you have specified @{"FONTNAME" Link "ToolTypes"} and @{"FONTSIZE" Link "ToolTypes"}, be sure that the font
     will fit on the screen.  Try reducing @{"FONTSIZE" Link "ToolTypes"}.

@{i}Gadgets do not adapt correctly to my default font.@{ui}
     There is a problem with some fonts that are incorrectly defined; hence,
     @{i}Ensemble Verbes@{ui} has no way to determine the correct sizes.
     You must use the @{"FONTNAME" Link "ToolTypes"} and @{"FONTSIZE" Link "ToolTypes"} ToolTypes to
     specify an alternate font.

@{i}Menu and gadget text is not in the language I wanted.@{ui}
     You should have the ToolType @{"LANGUAGE" Link "ToolTypes"} to the language you want, in
     that language.  For example, French may be selected by specifying
     @{b}LANGUAGE=français@{ub}.
     Be sure that @{b}Verbes.catalog@{ub} is present in either
     @{b}Catalogs/<language>@{ub} or @{b}LOCALE:Catalogs/<language>@{ub}.  The
     @{b}Install_Verbes@{ub} script may be used to install additional languages
     automatically.
