BGDirk Benedict was born in Montana on March 1st, 1945. He was raised in
BGthe country, far away from anything connected with movies or acting.
BGHe gathered his first experiences in acting in a college production of
BG"Showboat" where he got the main part. His father, a lawyer, died when
BGDirk was 18, which was hard for him to take.
BGWhile working at "Georgia, Georgia" in Sweden, he made the first contact
BGwith a macrobiotic diet and changed his eating habits drastically. He was
BG26 at that time. A few years later, doctors found that he had cancer of
BGthe prostate. He refused to accept the usual treatment and moved away to
BGa secluded cottage. Dirk managed to cure himself from cancer by following
BGthe rules of his macrobiotic diet. When he got his part as "Starbuck" in
BGBattlestar Galactica in 1978, the doctors stated that he was in good
BGhealth. Dirk's main successes were "Battlestar Galactica" and the
BGTV-Series "The A-Team" in which he played "Templeton - The Face - Peck".
BGHe is married to actress Toni Hudson and has two sons.

BGMichael Blake Day-Lewis was born in London, England, the second
BGchild of Cecil Day-Lewis (Poet Laureate of England) and his second
BGwife Jill Balcon.  His maternal grandfather was Sir Michael Balcon,
BGan important figure in the history of British cinema, head of the
BGfamous Ealing Studios.  His older sister Lydia Tamasin (Tamasin)
BGis a documentary film maker.  Daniel was educated at Sevenoaks
BGSchool in Kent, which he despised, and the more progressive
BGBedales in Petersfield, which he adored.  He studied acting at the
BGBristol Old Vic School.  Daniel made his film debut in "Sunday
BGBloody Sunday" in 1971, but then acted on stage with the Bristol
BGOld Vic and Royal Shakespeare Companies and did not appear on
BGscreen again until 1982 when he landed his first adult role, a
BGbit part in "Ghandi."  He also appeared on British T.V. that year
BGin "Frost in May" and "How Many Miles to Babylon?"  Notable

BGHis first major supporting role in a feature film was in "The
BGBounty" (1984), quickly followed by "My Beautiful Launderette"
BGand "Room with A View" (1985).  The latter two films opened in

BGof his remarkable range and establishing him as a major talent.
BGThe New York Film Critics named him the "Best Supporting Actor"
BGfor those performances.  In 1986 he appeared on stage in Richard
BGEyre's "Futurists" and on television in Eyre's production of "The
BGInsurance Man."  He also had a small role in a British/French film
BG"Nanou."  In 1987 he assumed leading man status in Philip Kaufman's
BG"The Unbearable Likeness of Being", followed by a comedic role in

BGInnocence" in 1994.  Subsequently, he teamed again with Ireland's
BGJim Sheridan to star in "In the Name of the Father", a critically
BGacclaimed performance which earned him another Academy Award
BGnomination.  His next project is the role of John Proctor in Arthur
BGMiller's play "The Crucible", directed by Nicholas Hytner.

BGwhich point he is invited to Hollywood by Warner Bros. Writer for
BGColumbia from 1942. Directs several pictures for United Artists and
BGColumbia between 1944 and 1950, and from 1950 on for Universal
BGInternational. Sirk stands out as a master of the melodrama, of which
BG_All I Desire_ (1953), _Magnificent Obsession_ (1953), _All That Heaven
BGAllows_ (1955), _Written On The Wind_ (1956) and _Imitation of Life_
BG(1958) rank among the finest ever made. Other highlights include _Summer
BGStorm_ (1944), _Thunder On The Hill_ (1951), and _The Tarnished Angels_
BG(1957). No film projects after 1958. In the 1970s, Sirk supervised the
BGproduction of three short films while teaching masterclasses at the
BGSchool of Television and Motion Pictures in Munich, Germany. Sirk's work
BGsignificantly influenced German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. After
BGa lukewarm reception in the 1950s, critics now generally acclaim the
BGsubtlety of Sirk's melodrama's en the mastery of his cinematographic
BGstyle.

BGAs Danny (the son of an Air Force father) was growing up in the Los
BGAngeles area, he was largely unaware of his talent for composing.  It
BGwasn't until the early 1970's that Danny and his older brother Richard
BGstarted a musical troupe while in Paris; the group "Mystic Knights of
BGOingo-Boingo" was created for Richard's directorial debut, _The
BGForbidden Zone_ (now considered a cult classic by Elfman fans).  The
BGgroup's name has gone through many incarnations over the years, from
BG"Mystic Knights" and "Oingo-Boingo" to, eventually, its current name,
BG"Boingo".  While continuing to compose eclectic, intelligent rock
BGmusic for his L.A.-based band (some of which had been used in various
BGfilm soundtracks, e.g. "Weird Science" in a movie by the same name),
BGDanny formed a friendship with young director Tim Burton (qv), who was
BGthen a fan of Oingo-Boingo.  Danny went on to score the soundtrack for
BGBurton's 1985 film _Pee Wee's Big Adventure_ (qv), which represented
BGDanny's first orchestral film score.  The Elfman-Burton partnership
BGcontinued (most notably through the hugely-successful _Batman_ flicks)
BGand opened doors of opportunity for Danny, who has been referred to
BGas "Hollywood's hottest film composer".
OWDanny continues as composer and lead singer of his eclectic rock band,
OWknown as "Oingo-Boingo" and "Boingo".  The group has released eleven
OWalbums as of 1994's recording (titled simply "Boingo").

BGHe was raised by his southern mother who had separated from his
BGfather (a Jewish lawyer) when he was five. He began amateur theatre
BGat age 12 and continued while attending the Colorado School of
BGMines. In 1900 they moved to New York. He attended Harvard,
BGtraveled to Europe, worked on a cattle freighter, in a hardware
BGstore and as a clerk on Wall Street. He made his Broadway debut in
BG1902 and five years later left theatre to marry an industrialist's
BGdaughter. He returned when his father-in-law went broke the next
BGyear. In 1915 he went to Hollywood and worked under a reluctant
BGD.W. Griffith. The following year he formed his own production
BGcompany. During a Liberty Bond tour with Charlie Chaplin he fell in
BGlove with Mary Pickford with whom he, Chaplin and Griffith had
BGformed United Artists in 1919. He made very successful early social
BGcomedies, then highly popular swashbucklers during the 'twenties.
BGThe owners of Hollywood's Pickfair Mansion separated in 1933 and
BGdivorced in 1936. In March of that year he married an ex-chorus
BGgirl and retired from acting.

BGGriffith was born in rural Kentucky to Jacob "Roaring Jake" Griffith,
BGa Confederate Army colonel and Civil War hero.  He grew up with his
BGfather's romantic war stories and melodramatic nineteenth century
BGliterature that were to eventually mold his black-and-white view of
BGhuman existence and history.  In 1897, Griffith set out to pursue a
BGcareer both acting and writing for the theater but for the most part
BGwas unsuccessful.  Reluctantly, he agreed to act in the new motion
BGpicture medium for 'Edwin S. Porter' (qv) at the Edison Company.
BGGriffith was eventually offered a job at the financially struggling
BGAmerican Biograph Company where he directed over 450 short films,
BGexperimenting with the story-telling techniques he would later perfect
BGin his epic _The Birth of a Nation_ (qv).  Griffith and his personal
BGcinematographer 'G.W. Bitzer' (qv) collaborated to create and perfect
BGsuch cinematic devices as the flashback, the iris shot, the mask, and
BGcrosscutting.  In the years following _Birth_ (qv), Griffith never
BGagain saw the same monumental success, and, in 1931, his increasing
BGfailures forced his retirement.  Though hailed for his vision in
BGnarrative film-making, he was similarly criticized for his blatant
BGracism.  Griffith died in Los Angeles in 1948, one of the most
BGdichotomous figures in film history.

BGDeborah Harry was born in 1945 in Miami, Florida. She was adopted at
BGthree months and raised by the Harry family in Hawthorne, New Jersey.
BGIn the '60s she worked as a Playboy Bunny and hung out at Max's
BGKansas City, a famous Warhol-inhabited night spot. Her professional
BGsinging career started in 1968 with a folk band called Wind In The
BGWillows. She sang backup on their first (and only) album. In 1973,
BGshe met Chris Stein, who became her long-time boyfriend. They created
BGBlondie in 1975 after they both were in the Stilletoes, a theatrical
BG"girl group" band. Blondie struggled for a few years, then went on
BGto be one of the most successful bands of the late '70s and early
BG'80s. The group broke up in 1983. Deborah has released five solo
BGalbums, acted in several movies and television shows and a few
BGcommercials (Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans, Sara Lee, Revlon). She's done
BGmany benefit shows in support of AIDS charities, a Broadway show
BG(Teaneck Tanzai), poetry readings, and been one of the most notorious
BGcharacters in the New York downtown scene. As of 1995 she's been
BGdoing shows in the US and Europe with the Jazz Passengers and Elvis
BGCostello, filming two new movies ("Heavies" with Liv Tyler and Evan
BGDando and "Drop Dead Rock" with Adam Ant), and topping the dance
BGcharts with two newly remixed Blondie singles ("Rapture" and
BG"Atomic"). A Blondie tribute album is due soon and a Blondie remix
BGalbum titled "Remixed, Remade, Remodeled" is due in July 1995.

BGBorn in precisely the kind of small-town American setting so familiar
BGfrom his films, David Lynch spent his childhood being shunted from one
BGstate to another as his research scientist father kept getting
BGrelocated.  He attended various art schools, marrying and fathering
BGfuture director Jennifer Chambers Lynch shortly after he turned 21.
BGThat experience, plus attending art school in a particularly violent
BGand run-down area of Philadelphia, inspired 'Eraserhead', a film that
BGhe began in the early 1970s (after a couple of shorts) and which he
BGwould work on obsessively for five years.  The final film was initially
BGjudged to be almost unreleasably weird, but thanks to the efforts of
BGdistributor Ben Barenholtz, it secured a cult following and enabled
BGLynch to make his first mainstream film (in an unlikely alliance with
BGMel Brooks), though 'The Elephant Man' (1980) was shot through with his
BGunique sensibility.  Its enormous critical and commercial success led
BGto 'Dune' (1984), a hugely expensive commercial disaster, but Lynch
BGredeemed himself with 'Blue Velvet' (1986), his most personal and
BGoriginal work since his debut.  He subsequently won the top prize at
BGthe Cannes Film Festival with the dark, violent road movie 'Wild at
BGHeart' (1990), and achieved a huge cult following with his surreal TV
BGseries 'Twin Peaks' (1991/2), which he adapted for the big screen,
BGthough his comedy series 'On the Air' (1993) was less successful..  He
BGalso draws comic strips and has devised multimedia stage events with
BGregular composer Angelo Badalamenti.  He had a much-publicised affair
BGwith Isabella Rossellini in the late 1980s.

QU"It's better not to know so much about what things mean or
QUhow they might be interpreted or you'll be too afraid to let
QUthings keep happening.  Psychology destroys the mystery,
QUthis kind of magic quality.  It can be reduced to certain
QUneuroses or certain things, and since it is now named and
QUdefined, it's lost its mystery and the potential for a vast,
QUinfinite experience."
QU"I sort of go by a duck when I work on a film because if you
QUstudy a duck, you'll see certain things.  You'll see a bill,
QUand the bill is a certain texture and a certain length.
QUThen you'll see a head, and the features on the head are a
QUcertain texture and it's a certain shape and it goes into
QUthe neck.  The texture of the bill for instance is very
QUsmooth and it has quite precise detail in it and it reminds
QUyou somewhat of the legs.  The legs are a little bit bigger
QUand a little more rubbery but it's enough so that your eye
QUgoes back and forth.  Now, the body being so big, it can
QUbe softer and the texture is not so detailed, it's just kind
QUof a cloud.  And the key to the whole duck is the eye and
QUwhere the eye is placed.  And it has to be placed in the
QUhead and it's the most detailed, and it's like a little
QUjewel.  And if it was fixed, sitting on the bill, it would
QUbe two things that were too busy, battling, they would not
QUdo so well.  And if it was sitting in the middle of the
QUbody, it would get lost.  But it's so perfectly placed to
QUshow off a jewel right in the middle of the head like that,
QUnext to this S-curve with the bill sitting out in front, but
QUwith enough distance so that the eye is very very very well
QUsecluded and set out.  So when you're working on a film, a
QUlot of times you can get the bill and the legs and the body
QUand everything, but this eye of the duck is a certain scene,
QUthis jewel, that if it's there, it's absolutely beautiful.
QUIt's just fantastic."
QU"Film exists because we can go and have experiences that
QUwould be pretty dangerous or strange for us in real life.
QUWe can go into a room and walk into a dream.  If we didn't
QUwant to upset anyone, we would make films about sewing, but
QUeven that could be dangerous.  But I think finally, in a
QUfilm, it is how the balance is and the feelings are.  But
QUI think there has to be those contrasts and strong things
QUwithing a film for the total experience."
QU"I'm not a real film buff.  Unfortunately, I don't have
QUtime.  I just don't go.  And I become very nervous when I
QUgo to a film because I worry so much about the director and
QUit is hard for me to digest my popcorn."
QU"It makes me uncomfortable to talk about meanings and
QUthings.  It's better not to know so much about what things
QUmean.  Because the meaning, it's a very personal thing and
QUthe meaning for me is different than the meaning for somebody else."
QU"To give a sense of place, to me, is a thrilling thing.  And
QUa sense of place is made up of details.  And so the details
QUare incredibly important.  If they're wrong, then it throws
QUyou out of the mood.  And so the sound and music and color
QUand shape and texture, if all those things are correct and
QUa woman looks a certain way with a certain kind of light and
QUsays the right word, you're gone, you're in heaven.  But
QUit's all the little details."
QU"In Hollywood, more often than not, they're making more kind
QUof traditional films, stories that are understood by people.
QUAnd the entire story is understood.  And they become worried
QUif even for one small moment something happens that is not
QUunderstood by everyone.  But what's so fantastic is to get
QUdown into areas where things are abstract and where things
QUare felt, or understood in an intuitive way that, you can't,
QUyou know, put a microphone to somebody at the theatre and
QUsay 'Did you understand that?' but they come out with a
QUstrange, fantastic feeling and they can carry that, and it
QUopens some little door or something that's magical and
QUthat's the power that film has."

BGeducation instructor. In his senior year, while working as a furniture
BGmover to pay for school, he was discovered on Sunset Boulevard by a
BGHollywood Agent who signed him with MGM. He became the first blond
BGTarzan in "Tarzan the Apeman" 1959), a cheapie/quickie which lifted
BGmost of its footage from earlier Weissmuller movies. MGM had him under
BGcontract for 20 months; in that time he worked 8 weeks as Tarzan.
BGAfter that he did guest spots on a number of TV Series, finally
BGbecoming a regular on "Wagon Train" as Duke Shannon (his name was then

BGUddannet på Frederiksberg teaters elevskole. I en alder af 20 år gik
BGDirch ind på Frederiksberg Teaters elevskole, og fik få år senere sit
BGfolkelige og kritiske gennembrud i [Knud Pheiffer]s revyer. Dirch
BGforsøgte sig dernæst hos revymanden Stig Lommer, og det var her, at han
BGkom til at danne par med [Kjeld Petersen]. Kjeld og Dirch blev omgående
BGet umådelig populært par, både på scenen og i filmindustrien. De seks
BGår med Kjend Petersen var Dirch's lykkeligste tid. Som team var de
BGperfekte, og de var to om at bære den byrde, det var at være landets
BGmorsomste komikere. Ved [Kjeld Petersens] død i 1962 var der også noget i
BGDirch som døde. Trods flere forsøg fandt han sig aldrig nogen egentlig
BGpartner igen. Passer opgav stort set scenen, og helligede sig op
BGigennem 60'erne filmen. Dirch skulle nu på en gang være både
BG'Kellerdirk', og han skruede op for alle virkemidlerne, han lagde sig
BGud og hævede stemmen. I stribevis a komedier blev der drevet rovdrift
BGpå hans talent. Men folkekær var han til stadighed. I 70'erne lykkedes
BGdet Dirch at tage revanche med en række farcer, bl.a. '_Mig og Mafiaen_',
BGsom han vandt en Bodil for. De film gav ham rigelig mulighed til at
BGdyrke sig forkærlighed for crazy-humor, og skøre udklædninger. Det var
BGogså i 70'erne Dirch vendte tilbage som revy-kunstner på de store
BGsommerscener og i Tivoli-revyen, hvor han skabte klassike sketches, som
BGden om havbiologen og hans kulmule, ornitologen og hans mudderklire
BGeller den uskyldige kæmpebaby 'Op å dååå!'. [Dirch Passer] var en
BGskuespiller der samtidig var en genial klovn, og han kastede sig derfor
BGyderst sjældent over egentlige karakterroller. Dog fik han opfyldt en
BGgammel drøm fra elevtiden, da han på Aveny fik lov at spille Lennie i
BG[John Steinbecks] 'Mus og Mænd'. Dirch leverede en fin, men underkendt
BGfortolkning af den store retarderede Lennie. Hans virkelige præstation
BGbestod i at spille overfor et publikum, der forventede at skulle more
BGsig.
