Expect a delay in graphic display] Affordable Storage Solution that Provides Unlimited Capacity and Mobility to Computer Users ROY, Utah, Nov. 7, 1994 Heralding a new era in the removable storage market, Iomega Corporation today announced its Zip drive and Zip disk the only storage solution that offers personal computer users endless capacity, complete mobility and hard disk-like performance for under $200. The Zip drive is expected to be available at street prices as low as $199.99, with 100MB and 25MB disks priced at $19.95 and $9.95, respectively. The Zip drive is a compact, portable solution that is ideal for moving information between work and home, expanding hard disk capacity, organizing and saving business and personal financial records, and sharing large files. Zip disks offer the capacity, convenience, and affordability needed by today's computer users. An unlimited way to extend hard drives and organize files, Zip disks are available in 100 and 25MB capacities, and can be purchased in single packs or economical 5-packs. Zip drive's introduction is solid evidence of Iomega's new strategic repositioning efforts aimed at giving customers what they want, when they want it, at a price they are willing to pay. Our new Zip drive is unlike any other storage product on the market, said Timothy L. Hill, vice president of marketing for Iomega Corporation. It's like getting four drives in one. It's an unlimited upgrade for your filled up hard disk; it's a high capacity mobile storage solution; a personal organizer of your stuff; and, it's an excellent backup drive. Iomega developed its new drive and disk after conducting an extensive market analysis involving over 1,000 computer users. This analysis provided overwhelming proof of the demand for a removable storage solution that fills the growing void at the low end of the storage market not being met by floppies. Dataquest, a San Jose, Calif. market research firm, said in a recent report, Iomega has certainly done its homework in the development of this drive. Extensive market research, performed by Iomega, revealed a void in the storage technology industry for products that are specifically designed and marketed for the concrete need of the user to manage my stuff. This includes not only sufficient capacity; but also the removability and ruggedness of floppy disk drives, the feel of a rigid disk drive, user- friendly data management software tools, ease of installation, and appropriate distribution channels and price points for both the drive and the media. The Complete Storage Solution: Every Zip drive comes complete with a starter Zip disk that includes ZipTools software to help consumers organize, track and quickly locate their computer information. The Zip drive solution will help computer users better manage their information, graphics, games and other applications much like shelves and drawers help people organize their closets, said Andy Grolnick, Zip product manager. And with such affordable 100 and 25MB Zip disks, computer users can build an information library with only 10 to 20 disks. The small, 100-megabyte, portable Zip drive offers simple plug and play set up right out of the box for PC desktop, laptop and Macintosh computer users. Iomega's Zip drives and disks will be available through leading computer resellers, distributors and retail stores in first quarter, 1995. Iomega's Zip drive and disk will be shown to the public for the first time in Las Vegas at the Comdex 94 computer tradeshow. [Back to the Iomega Home Page.]
