.---------------------/-----------------------------/-----------------------. | NiGHT-SCANNER V1.O / Complete User Documentation / by nocTurne deSign/OGN | `-------------------/-----------------------------/-------------------------' .---------. | SUMMARY | `---------' NiGHT-SCANNER is a fast and easy to use new-files/files-reverse door for AmiExpress. Seeing that everyone and their mothers have coded such a program, I decided to join this growing trend. However NiGHT-SCANNER offers time-saving features and configurability missing in most of the others. Continue reading to learn of these many features and become an elite pro at using NiGHT-SCANNER. Amaze your comrades! Impress your girlfriend(s)! .-----------. | ARGUMENTS | `-----------' NiGHT-SCANNER may be initiated from the command line with arguments. Following are the templates and complete explanation of these arguments, as well as some examples: Command templates: "N " - show files of "N " - do something special "F " - show all files "FR argument may be one of the following: `XX-XX(-XX)' - Since a specific MONTH-DATE(-YEAR) `-x' - Since x days ago (x may be multiple digits) `S' - Since the date of your last logon `T' - Since midnite today `Y' - Since midnite yesterday The argument may be: `x' - Directory number x (may be multi-digit) `U' - Upload directory (default if not specified) `A' - All directories `H' - Hold directory (with proper access) may be: `E' - Open the configuration menu `?' - Get online quick help `Z' - Download this file Usage examples: "N S" - List files in the upload dir since your last call. "N S U" - Identical to the above "N Y" - List files since yesterday "N -97 2" - List files since 97 days ago in directory 2 "N 11-10" - List files in the upload dir since November 10th of THIS year "N 11-10-93" - List files in the upload dir since November 10th of 1993 "FR" - Show files in the upload directory backwards "FR 12" - List directory twelve in reverse "N T H" - List today's files in the upload directory "N E" - Edit your personal configuration .---------------------------------. | Date/Dir Prompts for `N' search | `---------------------------------' If you do not specify the argument you will be greeted with a date prompt. By default the date string is the current date. Using the '<' and '>' keys you can decrease/increase this date by increments of one day. If you wish to enter a completely new string, simply start typing. The entry field is somewhat intelligent. If you enter '6' as the first character in the month, it will be mapped to '06'. There is no need for hyphens to be typed. 'Q' may be entered at any time to immediately exit the door. After a valid date has been entered, you will be asked to enter the directory to scan. You may choose to search a specific dir number, the 'U'pload dir, the 'H'old dir, or 'A'LL directories. .---------------------. | Pause Mode Features | `---------------------' At this point the directory will be loaded and searched. If files since the given date are found they will be displayed. When a screenful of text has appeared, NiGHT-SCANNER will go into pause mode at which point you have a variety of options: `Y' - Continue listing files. `N' - Stop listing files. `Q' - Same as above. `NS' - Show files non-stop (abort with CTRL-C) `F' - Flag Files: A large text field will be opened so that you may flag multiple filenames (or filenumbers if you have that config option turned on) for downloading. CTRL-X will clear the field. Filenames/numbers must be separated by a a space. `?' - Key command list: This will list the sysop-configured key commands available to you if you have the appropriate access level. You may run doors (nukers, file-viewers, or whatever the sysop has chosen) from within NiGHT-SCANNER. If, for instance, 'X' has been assigned to a nuke program, pressing 'X' at the pause prompt will spawn the nuker so that you may dispose of any unwanted files you may have seen. If the sysop has set, an argument prompt will first appear so that you may enter the names or numbers of files, separated by spaces, if the spawned door supports them. When the child door exits you will be returned to the pause prompt. When you exit NiGHT-SCANNER, the number of files and bytes listed will be shown, as well the number of files flagged. .---------------------------. | Configuring NiGHT-SCANNER | `---------------------------' NiGHT-SCANNER allows you to define your own personal configuration. Each config option may be toggled by typing its respective number. To save your configuration simply type 'S'. To quit type 'Q'. The following are the options you may set: 1) Pause between entries If this is set, after every file entry shown NiGHT-SCANNER will pause. At that point you may type 'F' to immediately flag the file shown, or Return to continue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) `N' equals `N S U' If this option is set, you will need only to type 'N' to see the new files since your last login. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Use color in the listing This will simply add a bit of color to the sizes, dates, etc.. of files Nuked file descriptions will appear in blue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Use dividers between entries A sysop-defined divider will be used between each file-entry if this is selected, making for easier reading. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) Use date dividers If selected, sysop-defined divider texts will separate files each time there is a date change. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) Clear screen after pause This will simply wipe the screen after every pause prompt. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7) Use file-numbering system If this is set, NiGHT-SCANNER will assign a number to each of the files listed so that they may be flagged easier. The listing will be truncated however, so the years of the files and the file-test results will not be shown. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8) Show only whole descriptions If, while showing files, the next description would not be shown completely (as it would exceed your lines/screen setting), the listing will pause if this option is set. Try it to understand its usefulness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9) Omit sent-by lines This will simply omit the last line of each description. .------------. | Conclusion | `------------' I hope you find NiGHT-SCANNER is as fast and easy to use as it was intended.
