The enclosed Amigaguide document explains how to improve the speed of Modem transfers using USRobotics modems (and quite a few others for that matter). I have translated the original document into "proper" English - the original docs were written by a Swedish bloke by the name of Robert Hertell and translated into Amigaguide format by Robert Lehman - I have no idea of his home country. I have (when necessary) removed some of the errors in the translation but I have tried to leave the spirit of the original docs unchanged. You might find the use of CAPITALS a bit odd at times but that's the way the originals read. I am not the author -just an editor :-) The docs mention a copy of the serial.device and a copy of Cpublit being enclosed. They were not enclosed with the copy of the docs I downloaded and I have not included them here - they are both, as far as I know, copyright material and I have no intention of infringing those copyrights by distributing copies here. Both can be downloaded from your favourite BBS. I have also, where possible, tidied up the layout of the original file by including a few extra links (and fixing two broken ones) but I have not changed in any way the instructions contained in the file (that is to say - if the instructions don't work, don't blame me!). Finally, remember that the best way of fixing modem problems is:- a) READ THE MANUAL! b) have a chat with your local Sysop - I had endless problems until I spoke to (here come the credits, folks!):- Dave Naylor of Frost Free (+44 0484 842341) and Andrew Dowds of Heart of Lothian (+44 0620 826004) (with a special thank you to Andy - I still owe you a pint!). Happy phone bills, Allan.
