INTRODUCTION (What is "The Bin")
============ ===================

Nearly every Workbench user knows about the trashcan. It is meant to be a
simple way of deleting files but has a number of problems :

* A trashcan is needed on every volume (Floppy disks, Hard disks e.t.c)

* The trashcan does not delete files directly, they are stored in a special
  directory until the user selects "Empty Trash"

* The trashcan is located in the window of the root directory of a drive.
  It is not always easy to get to in a crowded workbench screen.


"The Bin" solves these problems by :

* Placing one icon in the actual workbench window.

* Files are deleted straight away (the user is asked to confirm)

* Using the commodity system. A Hotkey will bring up the control window.



WHAT IS NEEDED
==============

* Workbench 2.0 or above

This is almost standard now and "The Bin" does use a lot of WB2.0 functions
e.g. Commodities, AppIcons e.t.c



USING "THE BIN"
===============

"The Bin" can be started from the shell or workbench, at boot time or whenever
you need it. I would advise it is started from the S:User-Startup file because
of a fault (see Bugs section) in reading the standard Commodities ToolTypes
from workbench.



SHELL USAGE
===== =====

Place "The Bin" on the search path e.g. in the SYS:TOOLS drawer.

Type "The Bin" <any options>

Options are :

	CX_POPUP = YES or NO    - If "YES" then the configuration window
				  appears when first loaded.

	AUTO_CONFIRM = YES or NO - If "YES" no confirmation is requested when
				   deleting files.

	INITIAL_STATUS = ENABLED or DISABLED - This controls if "The Bin" will
					       allow files to be dragged onto
					       its AppIcon.

To start "The Bin" automatically, add it to the S:Startup-Sequence file. If
you don't know what the startup-sequence is, please see the WORKBENCH usage
section below.

C:LoadWB >NIL:

run <>NIL: "SYS:TOOLS/THE BIN"  ;or the drawer you have installed it in

C:EndCLI >NIL:



WORKBENCH
=========

Place "The Bin" in any drawer e.g. in the TOOLS drawer.
Double-click its icon.

To start "The Bin" every time workbench is started place it in the WBStartup
drawer.



HOW TO USE IT
=== == === ==

When "The Bin" is started from either the shell or workbench, an AppIcon will
appear in the Workbench window with the disk icons. Simply drag file(s) onto
the AppIcon and they will be deleted, though confirmation will be asked.

It really is that simple!



CONFIGURATION WINDOW
============= ======

To change the settings, double-click the AppIcon and the configuration 
window will appear. The settings can be changed from both the gadgets and 
the pull down menus.
The configuration window can also be accessed by pressing the hotkey which
by default is - "ctrl b"

Enabled : This allows icons to be dragged onto the AppIcon. If it is not
	  selected files dragged onto it will be ignored.

Confirm deletion : If this is selected no confirmation will be asked before
		   files are deleted. Be Careful!!

Hide Window : This removes the configuration window from the screen.

Quit... : This removes "The Bin" from memory completly.



BUGS
====

* ToolTypes are not accepted if started from Workbench.

* A small memory loss (about 1K) every time "The Bin" is started.
