PROUDLY PRESENTS: H i T y p e 1 2 a bitmapped Amiga font for all ECS users working with 1280 x 400 !!!! ############################################################################ DISCLAIMER ---------- This font looks nice on my machine and if it doesn't on yours, it's not my fault. If you install and use this software product, may I ask you to send me at least one email, giving me notes about the font or telling me whatever you want. This font is MAILWARE! Everyone who hasn't got access to email, don't worry: you may still use the font :) INTRODUCTION ------------ So I load up another text file or AmigaGuide document and what happens!? The lines are just that little bit too long, making the whole thing a pain to read. OK, so there's word-wrapping but you have to scroll then to get it all. After being annoyed by this over and over I tried to run my Workbench (2.04) in 1280 x 400 interlaced with 60 Hz and 4 colours - but my 1084 wouldn't show characters anymore, just a mess of 160 thingies per line!!! "But you've got Topaz 9 and 11", I hear you say. Well, if you really mean that, try it out yourself... The only solution to all this would be to create a new font sized 14 x 12, making it perfect for reading texts at 1280x400 and about 86 characters per line, which still show off nicely on a 1084 monitor. And here's the result!!! :-) WHY --- Because I'm still working with an ECS A500 and Kick/WB 2.04 and won't spend my money on a new monitor just to get that Productivity mode etc., and because I think there still are many more like me out there and I'd like to make them happy by releasing this font as MAILWARE !! (see above) WHEN ---- In the afternoon hours of June 15th, 1995, a rainy and dark day... HOW --- I used that mega-old "Fed" font editor from the original "A500 Extras 1.2" disk which originally came with my A500 when I bought it in 1988 - that was before Kickstart 1.3 was released! That thing even still works with a 68030, 6 MB RAM, Kick 2.04, etc. ... no serious bugs ... check it out! FEATURES -------- - includes all ASCII characters from 32 to 255 - looks nice :) - also some of the most commonly used special characters included, like äöü ÄÖÜ ß ¼ ½ ¾ @ © ® etc. - fully OS style-guide compliant ;-) INSTALLATION ------------ Do I have to tell you THAT!? USAGE ----- Try "setfont hitype 12" or use the Font preferences in the SYS:PREFS drawer... or if you want, use the font from within a paint program etc. COMPATIBILITY ------------- A500 to A4000 running Kickstart 1.2 to 3.1. Leave me a note if you would like to see a 68020+ version of the font... :-) TESTED ON --------- an A500 rev. 5 with Kickstart and Workbench 2.04 (37.175/37.71), 2 MB Chip RAM, GVP A530 SCSI controller, accelerator board and RAM expansion with 4 MB 32-bit Fast RAM installed, 68EC030 installed and running at 40 MHz, Quantum and SyQuest harddrives (270 MB each) and a Toshiba XM-3501 CD-ROM drive, and last but not least an ECS Hires Denise 8373! HISTORY ------- HiType 12, version 1.0: first version (not released). HiType 12, version 1.1: a few errors corrected. "1" shifted one pixel to (included) the left, "_" lowered one pixel, "4" re-edited... FUTURE ------ - more corrections (I think the small "i" still looks ugly...anyone?) - edit characters that are yet missing - they'll show off as a skull or a small box saying "OH NO"... - release different sizes of this font??
