 What is ListIt?
 ---------------
ListIt is a utility which creates alternative File Lists, When used with
included program @{"DIZLIST" link "16" 0} , it will create lists such as the type used with
"Elite" type Bullitin Board Systems.

  Features include:

a. The ability to create lists for all file areas.

b. The ability to create colorized lists (GR1-9).

c. Automatically creates any files (not included in the archive) which it
    needs for operation.

d. Keeps track of what file areas have changed since last execution, so it
doesn't have to do file areas that are unchanged.

e. Creates filelists which include long and short descriptions.

Why use ListIt instead of other similar programs?
 -------------------------------------------------

--- There ARE no other similar programs ;)

--- It works!

--- Fully supported by @{" LARRY CLOUD & KEITH TOWNSEND" link "11" 0} ,

 How do I configure ListIt?
 --------------------------

ListIt is an AREXX © script for the MEBBSNET © BBS software. You must
already have AREXX © @{"installed and running" link "13" 0} prior to attempting to run this
door. It is NOT a door, however, as it runs independently of MEBBSNET.

You will need to create a directory where ListIt will place the data files and
catalogs. You can then put the ListIt program and icon in any directory that
you wish. It can then be run from workbench or CLI.

Next, open a shell, cd to wherever you put the files, and type LISTIT CONFIG
and follow the instructions.

Once you've configured it, you can put it in any script (LOGOFF, MIDNIGHT,
etc.) and run it as many times as you want. It will only update files that
have changed since last execution, skipping anything unchanged. The first
time you run it, it will take a while! Be forewarned. Once that initial
runthough is done, though, its lightning fast.

RUNNING LISTIT

Open a shell and type LISTIT. Or double click on its icon. Couldn't be
simpler.

@node "9" " Credits! "
Thanks to:

William Bowling - MEBBSNET author - If not for Bill you wouldn't be reading
this. Its kind of hard to develop software for something that wouldn't exist
if not for Bill.

Keith Kittlesen - My roommate and best friend. He has put up with a lot from
me and I owe him everything I have. He has stuck with me through thick or
thin, seen a huge increase in his phonebill, and has put up with calls from
people at all hours of the day & night. Thanks, bud (even if you DO look like
Chris Petersen!)

Keith Townsend - Keith did a large portion of this coding. Since I'm the one
writing the docs, he deserves as much, if not more, credit for this program. I
didn't think it could be done. He convinced me to keep at it and together, we
did it. Thanks for having the faith, bud.

Larry Cloud - For these outstanding docs ;) As stated above, Keith and I put
a LOT of work into this. Hopefully someone will come up with a way to use it.
I wrote a door in Arexx to use the output from this program, but its slow and
limited.

All MEBBSNET CSR's - Distribution

All persons who have tested this and reported bugs so we could fix them

YOU! For downloading this program and taking the time to RTFD!

 Installing Arexx
 ----------------

This door REQUIRES the use of AmigaDos 2.04 or higher. Since thats the case,
AREXX should already be installed and running in our system, unless you
specifically took it out of your startup scripts. If thats the case, see your
AMIGADOS manual for instructions on re-installing AREXX on your system. This
door will NOT work without the AREXX server being active.

First release. Lets see how folks like it ;)

See @{"HISTORY" link "10" 0} for info on previous versions.

@node "15" "Future info"
What does the future hold for ListIT?
 -------------------------------------

We we were hoping that some enterprising programmer would write a door that
would display TXT or GRX files instead of the standard file list output but
still maintaining all the download features..

If we can achieve this we plan on make SEVERAL types of displays available and
the ability to omit unwanted areas. Of course all this will be incorporated
into ListIt if theres an interest.
@endnode

@node "16" "DIZLIST"
DIZLIST is an include AREXX script which allows the BBS software to extract
the FILE_ID.DIZ description files that seems to have become standard. The
complete Docs to DIZLIST are in the file DIZ.CFG which should be placed in
your MEBBSNET:CONGFILES directory.
