DirectDL copyright 1994 by Bob Scheel This program and accompanying files may be freely distributed provided it is distributed intact and without modification. This program will allow specifying a file with the complete pathname and Mebbsnet will xfer the file and adjust the user's stats to reflect the download. WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING This door was written to allow me to easily download files remotely that I did not have in the BBS file catalogs. There are significant security risks involved in allowing indiscriminate downloading of your files. For example mebbsnet.con and the user.dat file contain confidential information that could leave your BBS or some of your user's confidential information vulnerable. If you do not have a good idea of the potential problems inherent in this I suggest you reconsider using this program. A security.cfg file has been provided which should prevent the transfer of your user.dat and mebbsnet.con files. Please be carefull if you modify this file to protect your system from unauthorized access to confidential data. Note that it is your responsibility to add any other entries that may be required to protect your own system adequately. SECURITY.CFG The configuration file security.cfg contains multiple lines of locked out partial file or pathnames. The program will read and parse these entries similiarly to the AmigaDos wildcard file matching. i.e. #?MEBBS#? will match ANY file contain the characters MEBBS regardless of where in the pathname it occurs. Upper or lower case is ignored in the comparison so MEBBS will also match Mebbs and mebbs. If DirectDl cannot located a file named DOORS:DirectDL/Security.cfg It will abort and prevent any downloading. If you do not want ANY restrictions imposed on what can be downloaded because you are only giving access to this program through MINACCESS 31 or some other similar foolproof method make security.cfg an empty file. MAKE SURE YOU TEST ANY CHANGES FOR PROPER SECURITY! IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED That additional security should be provided by linking this door program with access restrictions limiting its use to verified users of known integrity. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED (and warned and warned several times) And of course the only warranty express or implied that this program carries is that it will occupy space on your disk. QUESTIONS? Contact: Bob Scheel c/o The Nervous System BBS Fidonet 1:14/613 816-665-4545 BTW I eventually plan on expanding this program to allow its use in a CD-ROM file door and numerous other projects that I'll probably never get around to. :-}
