Imagine 3 : Part 3 (Taking the main image apart) Special Imagine Features ------------------------ Step 1 (clouds.iff) The background to the image was a scanned image of some clouds. To make it more interesting, it was swirlled around a little in an image processing program (Art Department, ImageFX or Photogenics) and saved to disk. Step 2 (quick-stage1.iff) Various objects were created or loaded from public domain collections and placed in the Stage editor. The cloud background was added in the Action editor's Global menu. The finished render was 1024 by 1024 pixels and took about twenty minutes to render on an A4000 with 20Mb of RAM. Step 3 (quick-stage2.iff) More objects were loaded or created. This time a lens flare effect was used to add a little more interest. The image created in step 2 was used as a background, and the image re-rendered to combine the two sets of objects. Combining them in this way saved time and memory. Because the resolution was quite high, if all the objects were rendered at once, the Amiga started to run out of memory. Step 4 (logo.iff) A logo was created using the Spline editor and a PostScript font. The logo object was given a texture and pl Crop 1 Many PostScript compatible fonts can be loaded into Imagine and turned into objects. The result is smooth lettering which you can then treat with textures and brushes like any other object. Crop 2 There can be as many light sources in the scene as you require. Here there is a light source inside the lamp, as well as one to the front and another to the rear. All lamps can be made to cast shadows if required. Crop 3 Objects can be given special textures which are generated internally, rather than given a brush map. These procedural textures look very smooth and can be finely controlled. Crop 4 Imagine 3 can add a lens flare effect to the image, as though the light sources were reflecting inside the imaginary camera used to "photograph" the image. Crop 5 The complex modelling tools available will allow you create realistic objects. If you can see it, you can model in with Imagine 3. Crop 6 The physical properties of objects can be adjusted to create translucent solids, or highly refective mirrors. You can combine these settings with texture and brushes to create almost anything.
