Operation Instructions

By using this adaptor and the supplied software (only version which includes software) you can connect up to 4 AT-Bus (IDE) devices at the same time. With a suitable dual connector HDD cable you are able to connect two devices to each connector in any combination. The 44 pin connector (main connector) has priority over the 40 pin connector (second connector) and must be connected with the boot-device so that the Amiga has direct access to the installed Workbench software.

The fourfold adaptor is available with and without the MicroniK ATAPI P´n´P software.

Assembly

Before you start assembling the adaptor, make sure you have disconnect your computer from any power supply. Now open the case (warranty !) and carefully disconnect the 2.5" HDD cable (if it exists) from the mainboard (IDE connector). After that remove the metal shielding.

The adaptor will be fit onto the 44 pin motherboard (IDE) connector. Once fitted, you need to connect the cable from the HDD to the main connector on the fourfold adaptor (see drawing).

Play attention to the polarity (for both the main and second connector). The cable is marked (red in the most cases) and this side has to face in the direction to the PCMCIA port.

You need to connect either 2 HDDs or 1 HDD and 1 CD-ROM drive to the main connector before you can connect any other device to the second connector. Before you connect a device to the second connector you must have already connected two devices (HDD x 2 or HDD + CD-ROM) to the main connector.

Power supply

The 2.5" HDD will get its power from the 44 pin data cable, but for 3.5" devices using the 40 pin connector you will need a separate power supply. You get the power supply directly from the tower psu and connect it directly to the 4 pin power supply socket of the 3.5" (5.25") device.

Devices without a tower psu will need to be supplied by a 4 pin y-power cable, which will replace the existing floppy power cord, so that you supply both the floppy and the 3.5" HDD. For additional devices you will need another Y-power cable which you connect to the existing cable.

We recommend a stronger psu if you are going to connect more devices (original psu is to week).

Jumper settings

If you connect only 1 HDD, you have to set the jumper of the HDD to SINGLE or MASTER. If you connect 2 devices, you have to set the jumper of the first device to MASTER and the jumper of the second device to SLAVE.

If you have set the jumper correctly and the system does not recognise one or all of the devices then there is a possible conflict between the devices.

Note: It is also possible that when you start your computer the first time your computer does not boot. The problem is that some of the HDDs have a longer starting period than the Amiga Operating System. In this case you should perform a soft reset (Ctrl - Amiga - Amiga).

The default jumper setting of the CD-ROM drives is generelly SLAVE or SINGLE. If you are going to connect the CD-ROM to the second connector on it´s own or as the first drive then you have to set the jumper to MASTER. For further help or information please contact your local dealer.

Software

The first (or both) HDD on the main connector must be formatted and have software installed from the Amiga Workbench (refer to the manual). To install one or more CD-ROMs you will need the MicroniK ATAPI P´n´P software. The instruction and the installation program can be found on the floppy.
