Region north of the Black Sea between the
Carpathian mountains and the river Don,
inhabited by the Scythians 7th-1st centuries
BC. From the middle of the 4th century, they
were slowly superseded by the Sarmatians. The
Scythians produced ornaments and vases in
gold and electrum with animal decoration.
