South American marsh-dwelling bird of the
family Anhimidae; there are only three
species. They are about 80 cm/2.6 ft long,
with short curved beaks, dark plumage, spurs
on the front of the wings, and a crest or a
horn on the head. It wades in wet forests and
marshes, although the feet are scarcely
webbed. Screamers are related to ducks and
are placed in the same order of birds, the
Anseriformes.
