Military plan produced by German chief of
general staff, General Count Alfred von
Schlieffen (1833-1913) Dec 1905, which formed
the basis of German military planning before
World War I, and which inspired Hitler's
plans for the conquest of W Europe in World
War II. It involved a simultaneous attack on
Russia and France, the object being to defeat
France quickly and then deploy all available
resources against the Russians.
