The first of a series of novels by British author Arthur Ransome, published in the UK 1930-47, describing the adventures of children on holiday, set in the English Lake District and East Anglia, and always involving boats. Swallows and Amazons introduces the two families featuring in most of the series, the Walkers and the Blacketts, and their sailing dinghies, Swallow and Amazon respectively. Later books in the series include Peter Duck 1932, Pigeon Post 1936, and We Didn`t Mean to Go to Sea 1937.
