A type of inflorescence consisting of a long
fleshy axis bearing many small, stalkless
flowers. It is partially enclosed by a large
bract or spathe. A spadix is characteristic
of plants belonging to the family Araceae,
including arum lilies Zantedeschia
aethiopica.
