Hindu philosopher who wrote commentaries on
some of the major Hindu scriptures, as well
as hymns and essays on religious ideas.
Shankara was responsible for the final form
of the Advaita Vedanta school of Hindu
philosophy, which teaches that Brahman, the
supreme being, is all that exists in the
universe, everything else is illusion.
Shankara was fiercely opposed to Buddhism and
may have influenced its decline in India.
