A theatre in Islington, N London, England.
Originally a music hall, it was developed by
Lilian Baylis as a northern annexe to the Old
Vic in 1931. For many years it housed the
Sadler's Wells Opera Company, and the
Sadler's Wells Ballet, which later became the
Royal Ballet (transferred to Birmingham
(Hippodrome) 1990.
